'Survival' was the last Classic Who story before it was cut off air until the revival in 2005. Sylvester McCoy only had two companions as he travelled. Mel up until 'Dragonfire' and Ace up until the end. He regenerated in the TV movie in May 1996 giving him another appearance only to regenerate into Paul McGann.
