It was the night of the school dance. I had put on my dress and was waiting for Ash to come pick me up. I still couldn't believe that he had asked me, of all people, to go to the dance with him.
"Ding, dong."
"Alice honey, Ashton's at the door!" my dad yelled.
"Coming!"
I ran down the stairs, grabbing my purse form the end of the railing, and opened the door.
"You look beautiful." was the first thing he said.
"Um, thanks?" I said, hiding a smile. It was nice to feel loved after what happened with Adam.
My parents immediately rushed towards both of us to snap a picture before we left, like always. After that we said our goodbyes and Ash took me to his car.
As we drove there, I started out the window and played with my hair. Ashton stopped at a traffic light, and I turned to look at him. Of course he was looking at me too.
"You okay?" Ashton questioned. "I mean, I heard Adam was going with the new girl to the dance today. I'm really sorry about that, Liss."
"It's alright Ashton. What's done is done. I have you, and that's all I need to get through tonight." I smiled at him, trying to look reassuring.
"I hope so," he said, laying a hand on my bare shoulder.
...
As I got out of the car, I could already see a few girls whispering about me. Here we go again. Sometimes I wish I was the complete opposite of who I am now. What would it feel like to lie low, live under the radar? Not worried about making a mistake because people are watching your every move?
Ashton and I walked in, arms linked. We headed to the gym. I was so nervous I could barely walk straight.
When we entered, a few girls came up to us and took pictures for the yearbook. I smiled awkwardly, but Ash's smile reassured me. One night.
We headed to the drinks table, where I poured myself a glass of lemonade to calm myself down. When I was little, my dad would always give me lemonade when I felt down. It really did make me feel better, especially when it was pink.
A few guys from Drama came up to us and talked, mostly to Ashton. I'm glad he still had friends. I wasn't a very good one to him.
...
It was already one hour into the party, and I had made progress. I was talking to some girls about music and other stuff. They were actually really really to me! At first they were a bit hesitant to speak to me, but we were on a roll right now. I saw Ashton walking up to me from the corner of my eye, and I excused myself.
"Hey! How are you coping?" He asked.
"I'm enjoying myself actually. I'm glad I came, Ash."
"I'm glad. Wanna dance?" He questioned.
"Sure." I said, and laughed.
He led me to the dance floor, where a bunch of people were doing some really weird moves. I joined them. Besides, I had no reputation to hold up anymore.
After dancing for about 30 minutes, I decided to sit down. Ashton walked over after a while, and sat down next to me. He slid his hand into mine. Our fingers interlocked.
"Tired?"
"Yeah, I guess. But that was so much fun."
"It was, wasn't it? Tell me if you need to go home, alright?"
"Yes sir."
Just then a slow song came on.
Ashton smiled, and looked into my eyes. His beautiful chocolate brown eyes glimmered and sent shivers down my spine.
Oh no.
I realized something.
A/N: Hey guys!! I tried to leave this in a cliffhanger, don't know how well that went. Oh well. 😂 I hope you liked this chapter!
