The doctors were in shock, and one of them gasped. "She's supposed to be dead. No one should survive an attack like this."

Joel let go of Tommy, and stood there limp. "What?"

"She should be dead. Here, look." The doctors took off Ellie's shirt, and Joel's first instinct was to look away. He didn't want to see her shirtless, but he had no choice. The fox's bite was revealed, and it was a gaping hole in Ellie's side. The blood was rushing out of her side, and it wouldn't stop. Joel bent down and placed his already bloody hands over the whole. Tommy pulled his hands away, and turned to face towards him.

"I'm sorry, Joel."

"But, she didn't die. I was- Y'know, I was holding her, and she breathed, screamed, and held onto to my-" He gripped his shirt where there was indeed a hand print.

"Joel, it's over. We can't save her. I'm sorry."

He shook his head, and furrowed his eyebrows in sadness. "No, no, no. Please, Tommy. Please." The doctors were already packing up their stuff, and getting ready to leave. Joel wouldn't take it. He pushed Tommy to the floor, and went to go say something, but he chose not to. He fell to the floor, cupping his face in his hands.

Tommy didn't say anything else to Joel, and he walked away. Joel just needed time, he's in a zone. Or so Tommy thought.
