"Joel-"
"Ellie, I'm sorry." He said, letting himself fall apart, even though he knew Ellie wasn't going to help him come back together.
"It's okay." Ellie said, as she held his forearm, her thumb rubbing in an up and down motion.
He looked at her, and a tear streamed down his face. He just wanted to hug Ellie, to feel her arms wrap around his back.
He was mumbling, and he held his watch.
"It's not your fault, I understand." She said, in her best comforting voice she pulled herself to use.
"Ellie, we really have to get going." He said, and he stroked his hair.
"Okay, let's go." She walked past him, and Joel let out a stressed sigh. He wiped the tear from his eyes, and kept walking.
Now, the roles switched.
Again.
Ellie was forgiving, more than Joel ever thought her to be. She was admiring the beautiful scenery when she stopped dead in her tracks. Joel noticed, and questioned her, "Ellie? Ellie, what is it? What's wr-" He stopped and stared at the mystifying creature that stood before them.
She wrapped her arm around Joel's and gasped.
"Holy fuck. Do you see that?"
