the road that leads to nowhere

michael

Soft bangs on the door.
Luke shuffles and climbs up from the bed.
My body becomes cold so quickly.
He pulls on his pants and unlocks the door.

"G'morning Luke."

The voice comes from Ashton, a cheery noise behind it.
I can't see much, but I peek up from under the covers.
Ashton's shirtless, covered in love bites.
Luke and I didn't do much last night.
But I ended up giving him a blowjob.

"Is Michael Awake?"

I press back against the covers.
I kind of wish Ashton would go away.
I need a few more minutes to hold Luke.
I'm exhausted.
Luke's a lot more energetic at nights.

"We're getting ready to pack up, leaving in a few."

The door shuts.
Luke climbs back onto the bed.
He burrows into the covers and I wrap my arms around him instantly.
I know he's nervous.
Even though he loves the idea of getting away.
His biggest fear happens to be change.

We pack what we could.
Luke lets me borrow his clothes again.
I always borrow his clothes.
We follow Ashton and Calum to the station wagon.
He tosses our bags in the trunk.
Ashton's driving, Calum's navigating.
Luke is looking through travel cards.
I'm looking out the window like I always do.
Because I have nothing else to do.

The road that leads to nowhere.
We've drove far out of our town.
Far from the city.
We've reached endless roads.
With barely any restaurants and rest stops.
But we don't mind.
Because we're becoming free.
