michael
Uncle Cooper sits there emotionless.
I pull Luke's jacket tighter around my body, seeking comfort.
His eyes flicker and then he looks at me.
He never looks at me."So that's what you're going to do to me..."
"Don't be so selfish! I've lived here since I was fucking born!"
"I'm so dissapointed in you Michael, your behavior reflects on a lot. Who are these friends that you're leaving me for?"
"My friends are the greatest people ever, and if you're blaming them for my actions then that's where you've gone wrong!"
"Do you even have a girlfriend? You must be lonely Michael, that's why you're so grumpy."
"I don't like girls!"
"I'm glad you're leaving for the summer."We're walking together, Luke and I.
He's done something different to his hair, it is no longer brushed up.
It is in his glossy blue eyes.
He's happy.
He's happy that we're leaving, that he gets to change from the old.
The old holds all of the regret and depression.I'm excited
I feel free
Michael I'm happyI grab Luke's hand.
Wrap his fingers with mine.
Palms pressed together.
I kiss his slightly bruised knuckles.
Our arms sway in between us.But you're not happy
I tilt my head.
Furrow my eyebrows.
Release his hands from mine."What do you mean Luke?"
You have that fake smile
Something happened
You won't open up yet
But I'll stay waitingWe're at Ashton's house.
I say hello to them.
Ashton and Calum are busy.
Ashton is on his couch, Calum on top of him.
They're kissing.
Luke and I, we head upstairs.
Our shared guest room.
He locks the door and we go to the bed.Tell me the truth
"You'll leave Luke."
I won't
I most definitely won't"The situation that I'm in, Luke you'll be so confused."
Just tell me Michael, I promise I won't leave
I promiseI can't tell him anything.
But he hugs me.
And it feels so comforting.
He wraps his arms around my neck and lets me bury my face into his chest.
He lets me cry.It will be OK
"I hope so."
