Cadence had thanked the goddess that she was able to get away from the rogue. It had taken a while, but she'd done it. Now, her concern turned to finding Joey. She followed his scent down the river, ignoring the pain she felt in her leg and side. "Joey! Joey!" She called out continuously, never receiving an answer. She worried that another rogue had found him and was about to call again when she heard the familiar whimpering.

"Joey? It's okay now, it's me... Come out.." Cadence cooed, beyond relieved when the small body of Joey came out from under a tree root.

"C-Cade?" Joey said, his voice giving away just how scared he was. Cadence didn't hesitate to move over to him, rubbing her face and snout against him and checking him over. She was happy to find that he'd been unharmed and even happier when the boy seemed to relax instantly.  It didn't last long, his fear came back full force when he found the blood against her white fur. "Cade! You're hurt! Are you okay? Are you in pain?"

Cadence sighed, and decided it would be a good time to lay down. She was really tired, and she knew that the rogues had complicated their plans. "I'll be fine once I rest a bit." She assured, even though she didn't know the extent of her wounds. "Come Joey, let's rest. We will start again in an hour." When Joey hesitated a moment, and then finally snuggled into her side, Cadence began to clean him, not surprised that by the time she was done, he was fast asleep. Even as tired as she was, Cadence stayed awake a while longer, listening and sniffing the air.

Cadence woke abruptly, not realizing that she'd fallen to sleep in the first place. When she looked around, noticing that it was now sunset she wanted to cuss in frustration. She hadn't meant to sleep so long. She looked down, expecting to see Joey staring up at her, but was surprised that he was still asleep himself. Slowly, and carefully she stood up her leg and side screamed in pain at the movement, but Cadence knew that if she didn't get up to move her body would stiffen further and it would hurt even more than now.

Knowing that Joey was well hidden beneath the root, Cadence decided to go get a drink and to clean her wounds in the stream. Shifting back, her skin immediately erupted with chillbumps as the cool air hit her warm skin. Shivering she decided to get it over with quickly and rushed into the water. It wasn't the wisest idea she'd had, but she did it anyways. Her breath caught as the cold water rose against her skin and left her shivering even harder. She cleaned away the blood, grimacing as she seen the bite marks against her side.

"His scent get's stronger near here!" Cadence suddenly heard a male voice say, and froze in the water. She didn't know how she'd not scented them sooner, but knew that there was more than one wolf. She rushed out of the water, and shifted back so that she could move quicker and stealthier. She made it back to Joey within seconds, she didn't want to frighten him further so instead of waking him she grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and began running.

"C-Cade? What are we doing?" Joey's groggy and confused voice filled Cadence's head as she ran.

"Nothing, I just wanted to get a start, but didn't want to have to wake you." Cadence lied, feeling it best. Cadence's ears twitched when she heard paw's hitting the ground behind her. She knew the wolves were following, but couldn't do anything about it at the moment. Her main concern was to get Joey to safety. Cadence was suddenly hit from the side, and as she gasped for breath Joey was sent tumbling against the forest floor.

"CADENCE!" She could hear Joey scream, but Cadence couldn't console him, or make sure he was alright. Her attention turned to the large black wolf that stood snarling at her, and then to the three other's who appeared behind him. Cadence backed up, growling and snarling her own warning to stay back. She'd placed herself between them and Joey, hiding him from view.

"What do you want?" Cadence growled, her fur standing on end. She looked from each of the wolves to the other. She had been worried before with just the two rogues, now there were five. She wouldn't stand a chance, especially with what seemed to be their leader. He was larger than any wolf she'd ever seen.

Instead of them answering her, they talked amongst themselves. "No doubt, she's got his scent all over her." The lighter brown said.

The black wolf growled louder than she'd ever heard, "where is he rogue? Return him!" He ordered, taking a step closer.

Cadence had no clue what he was talking about. She was thinking of escape routes when Joey had moved out from behind her and began to run towards the wolves. Out of instinct and to protect Joey, Cadence cut Joey off and pushed him behind her with her paw. The act didn't appear to impress the others as one suddenly charged her. Cadence hardened herself, and moved to attack. She couldn't let him get closer than he already was.

Cadence could hear Joey screaming, but couldn't make out what it was that he said over the growl's of the brown wolf, and her own. She had lost too much blood before, and was losing more and more as the fight went on. Her vision blurred.  Cadence wondered of she was imagining the fact that the brown wolf had moved away from her and now simply stood there. Why wasn't he attacking her? Cadence's head was spinning, and she couldn't seem to focus on an object without it moving or multiplying.

"DON'T YOU HURT HER!" She heard Joey yell then suddenly felt him brushing against her legs. She had meant to look down at him, to get him hidden behind her, but the moment she looked down it seemed the ground was coming to meet her.
