"Untie me" his words caught her off guard

Do I trust him?

She knew what he was capable of, manipulating people like puppets in his grand scheme, Capable of twisting the minds of those stupid enough to trust him, she would admit that he had power over her, the way he spoke to her like he already knew her true identity, exactly the type of man people warned her not to trust. But that didn't mean she couldn't play along with his little game.

Harleen stood up and headed towards her patient, she will prove to him that she had trusted him and she is not afraid, she started to remove the straight jacket even if it meant the possibility of killing her in his own bare hands, she removed the remaining strips around him as the joker let out a psychopathic laugh.

Then suddenly his powerful hands pinned her against the metal desk, Harleen's eyes grew wider and tried to fight violently as fear was consuming all over her body

"Stop! Let go of me! Let go!" Tears were starting to flow as she felt scared as ever, his eyes were darker and his laugh became louder

He's gonna kill me after all i've done for him!

I trusted him! He used me!

Harleen closed her eyes, the last thing she wants to see is not his killer's face, instead she pictured herself with her family

She pictured herself with her mom hugging her during her graduation and her dad surprising her with a gift

But she knew they are gone and she had lived a miserable life

I wasn't ready to die

Harleen Quinzel accepted her faith and stop the urge to fight back. In that moment she felt his soft lips gently kissed her neck , she opened her eyes slowly and found a pair of dark brown eyes staring at her intently. He smiled and let out a quiet laugh, his fingers run through her hair down to her cheeks as he wiped each tear, the feeling was electrifying that keeps rushing through her veins

He is human, and he is fighting that part of himself

Harleen carefully caressed his face with her palm as her touch made him flinch, she stopped shortly but continued while watching his every move, she explored his jawline and every feature his face had as she felt his muscles became tense

Such beauty, but deadly

Slowly, The joker grabbed the back of her hand and brought it to his lips, he kissed it with his eyes never leaving hers, her breathing is labored as he took a step back, allowing the psychiatrist to breathe

Harleen stood up immediately and took a sit infront of him, still dazed from what happened she stared at The Joker who has a smile playing in his lips

"My apologies from what happened, I've been waiting long enough to touch your flawless skin doctor but being tied up in a fucking chair had obviously prevented me to do it"

Harleen took a deep breath and didn't responded, she was weighing her decisions, thinking what the possible consequences might happen

"You know when I was a kid, my father used to beat me up pretty badly"  he said out of nowhere, Harleen shot her eyes towards him as his gaze was fixed to hers, she opened her mouth to say something but no words escaped from her lips

He came from an abusive family

"He blamed me for my mother's death, he thought me violence despite of my innocence, he thought I'm numb from the pain of his knuckles! He thought I was numb from the emotional pain that I am struggling to set aside! He treated me like a monster so I became one, It made my personality strange, an outcast to the society"

We were both an outcast, we are similar in different shades

He felt unloved

He felt isolated

In a darker way

And then he laughed

"Memories can be vile, repulsive little brutes, like children i suppose hahahahaha, but can we live without them? Memories are what our reasons are based upon! If we can't face them, we deny reason itself! So when you find yourself locked up with all your unpleasant thoughts, where the screaming is now unbearable, remember there's always Madness, Madness is the emergency exit, We stop checking the monsters under our beds when we realize they are all inside of us."

"Insanity is a mask to hide our real pained selves, why? Why are you trying to hide it?"

"Dr. Quinzel, if I'm wearing a mask then you are building walls, too afraid to come out" he fired back

"I am not building walls"

"Madness as you know, is a lot like gravity" he leaned closer

"all it takes is a little push" he said fiercely, his eyes were fixed to her lips

"We are always alone Harleen.'

She immediately felt crushed by his words

He wasn't crazy

He wasn't insane

He was alone

He was hurt

He was helpless

For now it seems clear to her that The joker was a homicidal madman, a lost, tortured soul trying to get the whole world to laugh at his antics.
And there was always this self righteous Batman, determined to make life more miserable for him.

No one was willing to stand by his side and understand him

That was before me, before i made the choice to save him, I am his savior

Tears were starting to pool from her eyes as she stared to the beautiful, broken man infront of her. Slowly her hand finds his as their fingers were intertwined, the silence between them was perfect and Dr. Quinzel's surge of emotions were rising through her chest

"From now on I will always be by your side, you are not alone, i promise you that" she stood up and headed towards the door when he whispered roughly

"You are mine now Harleen" those words pierced her heart directly to her soul and with every ounce of courage, Dr. Quinzel turn around to face him, her vision was blurred from the tears in her eyes

"Yes yours" she smiled weakly and left his cell.

A few seconds passed while she was lost in all her thoughts, Dr. Harleen Quinzel heard a captivating laughter filling out the hallway outside his room

I'm falling, and I'm almost there.
