I spent three months in Mongolia at the beginning of 2005. The issues faced by the country that are discussed in this work were very relevant then and remain so in 2016. Alcohol, corruption, and human trafficking continue to be scourges that hinder the country's development. Despite these issues, Mongolia's economy has been among the highest performers globally in recent years due to the exploitation of copper and gold reserves by foreign mining companies. In 2005, however, the mining industry was in its infant stages and the economy was struggling. This is the Mongolia described in this novel.
Some details that may prove helpful:
· I have used the Mongolian "Chinggis Khan" instead of the English "Genghis Khan" for authenticity's sake
· "Ger" is the Mongolian word for "yurt" (the felt tent famous to Central Asia and Mongolia)
· Approximately twelve hundred tugriks (the Mongolian currency) equaled one American dollar in early 2005
All locations, cities, street names, train times, and other such details are accurate as of 2005, to the best of my knowledge.
All characters, with the exception of a few current and historical public figures, are fictional.
