Chapter 1: Pre-School

Daddy drove into the car park of Bear Park Pre-School for the first time of many. "Daddy, I don't want to go anymore." I said, folding my arms.

"Libby, just a minute ago you were asking me to drive faster." He gets out of the car to unbuckle me from my car seat which I hated. "You will love it, I promise." Daddy takes my hand and my bag and we walk to the entrance. He signs me in, kisses my forehead and leaves me. One of the teaches takes my bag and puts it with the rest while I go into the classroom and explore.

"Children. Please come and sit on the mat for class time." The teacher calls out to us and everyone races to find a seat. "We have a new bear at Bear Park. Libby, would you like to come up and introduce yourself?" I stand up.

"Hello, I'm Libby. I am four years old. I have a white cat called Fluffy, a Husky called Bella, two bunnies called Cotton-Tail and Mary and lots more animals cause I live on a farm with my dad. Lastly I have a baby brother called Kevin."

"Very good Libby. You will be with the grizzly bear group." I nod and sit back down. "Ok, today you will be sitting a test. We will read out a question and you will write the answer on a piece of paper." We all go and sit at the table. I write my name on the piece of paper. The questions were easy, who doesn't know the second letter of the alphabet? The teacher collects the tests and marks them while everyone goes and plays with the toys.

"Attention class. We have marked your tests. Libby, great job! You got nine out of ten correct, the highest score in the class!" I smile at the teacher. She walks off to her office.

"Look who it is, Miss Libby-Mc-Smarty-Pants." Some random girl sneers.

"Smarty-Pants! Smarty-Pants!" The whole class chants. My smile quickly turns into a frown.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" A boy yells from behind me. All the children scatter except us two. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah, I'm ok thanks." I reply.

"I'm James. Do you want to be friends?" He asks.

"Sure." I smile at him. He takes my hand and leads me to the building blocks.

"So what bear are you?" He asks, handing me a block.

"A grizzly bear."

"Me too! Looks like we will be spending lots of time together."

"Sure does." For the rest of the day we played together and none of the other kids bothered me when I was with James. At the end if the day when my dad came to pick me up, I was sad to leave James.

"Will you be here tomorrow?" I ask.

"Everyday of the week. Unless I'm sick that is. Bye Libby!" He calls out as he runs to his parents.

"Bye!" My dad comes over to me.

"Who was that?" He asks, bouncing Kevin in his arms.

"My new friend, James." I wave at James as his mum drives off. I may be only four, but I can tell that this is the start to a long friendship.
