Mikayla's POV
As soon as we finished texting, I began searching around my house for my mom's hiding places. What was in that box? Why was it locked up so tight? I looked everywhere that would be a good hiding place. In the closet, Under couch cushions, In the cereal boxes. Nowhere. Not one place I looked had any clues or any secret hiding places. So I did the most reasonable thing and decided to call Emma to come and help me. She was at my door immediately, and then we looked again. "Mik, are you sure that your mom has hiding places? I can't seem to find a single clue as to what the password is!" Em whined. "C'mon Emmie, there has to be something! If I were my mom, where would I hide something?" I asked myself. Emma and I made a list of probable hiding places
1. closet or drawer
2. box that no one looks in
3. in the wall maybe?
4. in the garden
5. in Mikayla's room

One by one we checked. My mom wasn't going to be home until 8:00 tonight, so we had at least another two hours. First we re- checked all the drawers and closets. Even in my mom's room. Then my old schoolwork box and toy boxes, nothing. then the garden, nothing. Finally, when we thought all hope to opening up that locked wooden box was hopeless, Em saw something. It was slight, but it was something. A crack in one of the green tiles on the fireplace. I insisted it was just a crack and it had been there forever, but then Em went over to it. Slowly she pulled on the tile, until it finally came loose. It was covering a small hole, about two inches each way, but there was something in there. A slip of paper and a shiny oval pendant made of opal and had a crystal rim. Emma unfolded the paper and read the clue:

Pretty, isn't it?
but pretty isn't the point.
if you want to find more clues,
you better find the joint.

"What does joint mean?" Em asked. "I think it means like a person or a place! Maybe we find the next clue when we find out who this gem belongs to!" I said, excited about these clues, especially since mystery books and tv shows were my favorite. So we studied the pendant again. On the back there was a small engraving of someone's initials, but we could only decipher the first letter, A. The last two letters were worn out and looked like an I, O, C, or J. "Hmm, maybe we should ask Bri and Livvy." I said, grabbing my phone.

Me: Hey guys we found the next clue! We need to figure out who's pendant this is, and the next clue will be there!

Bri: That's great!

Liv: So who's is it? it's not my mom's, she rarely wears stuff like that.

Me: Well there are initials on the back. A is all of the three letters we can decipher. So, this person has to have a middle name or two last names.

Bri: Huh, My moms have two last names and a middle name! Maybe it's from before they were married! My mom's first initial is A for Alison btw and her middle name is Lauren and last name is DiLaurentis

Me: Well, the initials kinda do look like ALD. Bri you should take the pendant and ask your mom!

Bri: okay, but how will I get it?

Me: Emma's at my house, she can bike over to your place and then go home after.

Bri: Kk

Brianna's POV
Emma came to my house to drop off the pendant at around 7, and then left. I went upstairs to go ask my mom if it was hers. "Mom?" I asked her. "Yes Brianna?" My mom, Alison said, not taking her eyes off her computer. "Is this yours?" I asked, holding up the shiny opal and crystal encrusted pendant. "huh, I was missing that. Where'd you find it sweetie?" she asked. I knew it was hers and that the next clue was in this house. "Um I found it by the bushes when I was walking home from school." I insisted, running to my room.

Me: It's hers.

Livvy: K u have to look around the house now.

Mik: Yay!

Emma: Ok

Me: I will tomorrow.
