In this world, every soul has a mark, or a brand. The only other person in the world who has the same mark as another is their soulmate.
When you see your soulmate for the first time, a half heart appears on your wrist. The other half lies with your soulmate. When you lock eyes with the person you are destined to be with, your heart becomes full, and your eyes glow and brand your mark.
There is only one way that the heart can be broken after soulmates are joined. That way, being the saddest thing in life, is death. When your soulmate dies, the other half of the heart disappears. When your soulmate is gravely ill, cheating, or in a very heated argument with you, one side of the heart begins to fade.
But, love is love, and you will always come back to them.
