From A Flower [#Wattys2016]

Water [S-P 1]

People say that water drowns you,
Sucks you in and doesn't let you go.
I say they're wrong.
I have the reasons why.

Sitting on the beach,
By the pool,
Near a lake,
All bodies of water either feel
Welcoming
Or
Terrifying,
And you probably know which is which.
I don't see a difference.

You
Jump
Or
Walk
Into the water
Thinking you know what to expect.
It's cold.
But warmer than you were prepared for.

You open your eyes.
It doesn't hurt,
But it's too blurry to see,
And you
Blink
A lot.

You
Swim
Or
Float
To the surface,
Greeting the
Sun
Or the
Moon
Kicking your feet and waving your arms.
And you smile.

You go under again.
This time you can open your eyes
And it's just a little clearer.
This time you go deep.
Deep.
Deeper.
Until your ears pop and your oxygen runs low.

You close your eyes.
You float,
Up to the surface.
Your lungs wanting oxygen but not begging yet.
You listen.
You stay there,
Like this.

It's quiet.
You know you'll get to the surface eventually and it'll all be loud again but in this moment you don't even care. You don't even care you're about to drown, maybe. You just want to be there. You just want to escape. You just want it to be quiet and undisturbed for once.

Or maybe it's just me.

A/N~ Hey guys, Rowan here. Before I say anything I just want to thank you all for the reads, votes and comments, it makes my day seeing a comment on my work or seeing that someone has voted on it. With that aside, I wanted to explain about this piece, Water. I got this idea while I was swimming in a pool, playing around with what I could do and stuff. I wrote this up as a kind of story, but poetry at the same time, and I thought it would be a nice idea because it's different. The [S-P 1] in the title stands for [Story-Poem 1] so I will be including that in any following S-Ps that I may write. Let me know if you guys like this or if I should stick with regular poetry.
