Murder is born of Love, and Love attains the Greatest intensity, in Murder

- Octave Mirabeau

~*~*~*~*~*~

A lonely crow sat perched outside the closed window.

A hoarse cry erupted from his beak-grating against the fog on the glass.

The tasteful lights that illuminated the bathroom, could not hide the gross injustice taking place on its floor.

A wretched pain twisted in her gut. An ugliness took birth in her heart.

Changing her from the inside out. In a million different ways, and maybe forever.

The heavy hand that was clasped around her mouth had lost its purpose now. She'd stopped screaming a while ago.

The man- clasped his brute fingers on her throat, choking for his pleasure, half smile on his lips. How he enjoyed fresh meat- untouched, waiting for him to defile.

He pulled his hand away and stood up to his full height. The metallic buckle clashed against the leather of his belt, she heard the zipper go all the way up.

Nina turned her face.

Cold, hard, dread made a home in her lungs. Her cheeks rested against the marble floor- the fresh hot tears of relief falling from her eyes, seeking comfort in the cold of the tile.

It's over.

"What day is it?" the man asked.

Nina didn't hear him. The blood pumped fast in her veins and her heart thumped hard against her ribcage; The tips of her fingers trembled uncontrollably- a loud pounding underway in her ears.

There was no world outside of her pain.

It's over.

They were the only two words that rang repeatedly in her head.

"What day is it?" he asked again.

Nina might as well have been deaf.

SMACK!

The back of his left hand flung across her face, the edges of his twenty-four carat gold ring, slicing her cheek yet again.

The slap woke her from her sleep of denial.

"May...It's May 10th" She gasped in intervals of whispered breaths.

Tomorrow was her fourteenth birthday.

She would never celebrate another one again.

"And what happened here today?" the man asked, getting on his knees. This time Nina heard him loud and clear.

Every bone in her body was exhausted, and her mind could barely function straight. She didn't want to think about what happened. She just wanted to sleep.

"Please...stop." She whimpered through swollen lips, and lifted her eyes to try and plead with them. But when she saw the small knife twisting in his hands, her breath got caught in her throat and complete fear climbed up her spine.

"No...no..." she tried to slide away, but it was useless. She was backed up against the glass of the shower panel "No, I'm sorry..."

Without warning, the knife cut through her torso, and twisted through her gut.

Her eyes popped out of their sockets and her mouth opened wide. But there was no sound except for that of the crow on the window ledge.

And there was no air she could inhale, except for the wind that rattled across the glass pane.

A seething, white hot pain, that had been crawling up her abdomen- ripped through her skull, and radiated through her body. Heaving in and out, through short bursts of breath, the wind was knocked out of her gut.

The dam of numbness she'd built, came crashing down. An agonizing flood of pain shot right through her legs all the way down to her toes.

"What..." the man said, his voice a slow whisper "happened here today?"

Nina's voice came in shuddering gasps.

"N-nothing."

The man's lips were bathed in a smile of wicked victory. He yanked her by her hair and squished her jaw in his hands.

"Good girl." He put one hand on the knife.

A fleeting moment's pause- as feeble as the hope that had begun to shine through the crimson stream of blood flowing across the marbled floor.

"And who will you tell?" He ripped it out.

A blood curdling scream, is silenced before it can draw any attention– his white knuckles burned bright as his hand sat firmly on her mouth.

"Nn-no...No one." Nina mumbled through his fingers. "No one. No one."

That's who she'd become. No one.

Her throat closed up, the air not reaching her lungs, she struggled against his hold, her legs flailing around. Her body thrashed and her eyes burned.

"All this trouble..." he laughed softly; the sound of it made her ears bleed. "I think you deserve one last round." He touched the metal buckle of his belt.

Insects crawled in her stomach, relentless pain- it burned- scorched its way through her abdomen. Her heart hammered wildly beneath his hold, her body thrashing up and down.

The man had one hand on her body- the other on his pants, as he tried to pull them down again.

His hands pressed down on her fresh wound- and a throbbing, stinging bout of pain shot up her arms.

A terrifying fear wrapped around her heart.

Through her aching eyes, Nina's vision remained fixated on the blood soaked knife to the side of her head, a grasp away from her hand.

He'd begun to choke her again- and like a snake- fear gripped her mind, suffocating, blistering, her hands limped to reach the knife.

But her vision had already started to go black...

A flash of light burst through her subconscious.

Nina awoke with start.

Heaving. Shaking. Dripping in sweat- she sat upright on her bed, her nails digging into the skin on her palms.

She undid her hair, soft, thick brunette locks- drenched in paranoid sweat.

A phone blared on her bed-side table; she finally opened her eyes.

Nina breathed in a sigh of relief as soon as she read the name and pressed answer.

"Today's the day."
