Ch 1: Teams? Yay...
___________________________________________________________________________________________________Riko's POV
Alarm blaring in my ears, I immediately slam my hand on the clock. I groggily open my eyes, only to be blinded by the harsh rays of the sun. Waiting for my vision to readjust, my red eyes scan the numbers of the clock, 7:05 am.Great.
Slowly and sluggishly, I tear the warm blankets off my sleep deprived body. The cold temperature of my room hits me like a wave making shivers crawl on my body like bugs. I shudder and make my way towards my personal bathroom.
Walking in, I look in the mirror and I'm instantly repulsed from the dark bags under my eyes. Last night I spent my hours studying the human body. Why? Because I'm training in Medical Ninjutsu, and studying anatomy makes things a lot more easier. Drifting my eyes from the mirror, I trudge towards the shower.
Twisting the knob, I set it on cold and let the water rain down. I strip off my clothes until I'm standing naked and step in. Closing the curtain, the water pelts on my pale skin, making me jump awake. Not wanting to freeze, I quickly shower. Lathering flower scented shampoo, I scrub my scalp until my head is covered in foam. I then let the cool water rinse my hair, the soapy substance trailing down my body. I repeat the same process for the conditioner, flower scented of course. I then grab a sponge and lather it in vanilla scented body wash and scrub myself. Once again I let the cool water wash me clean.
Grabbing a towel off the rack, I wrap it around my nude body and grab another for my hair. Rubbing my hair until it's not soaking wet, I take the towel off my head and put it back on the rack to dry itself. Running my fingers through my semi dry hair, I walk back into my room. Going to my drawers, I take out a clean pair of underwear and sports bra. I quickly put them on and walk to my closet and put on my usual outfit. Finishing with tying the white utility belt on my waist, letting the pouch rest on my lower back.
I walk out of my room letting the heel of the boots click on the wooden floor, I make it towards the kitchen. Since my father and my older brother, Ranko, are out on missions, it's just my mom and I. Walking in, I greet my mother.
"Morning mom," I say cheerfully.
"Ah, morning sweety. Ready for school today," she asks, still preparing my breakfast.
"Yeah, today is the last day, so we're getting our new sensei and teams," I explain with an excited smile.
"So, do you have anyone of interest that you want on your team," she ponders as she looks over her shoulder at me.
"Hmm, maybe Sakura," I sigh dreamily.
"The Haruno girl? Isn't that the girl you like," she asks with an amused smile and quirked eyebrow.
I choke on the air with realization, "uh, what?! No, I-I don't like her," I blush.
"Riko, I could tell when my own daughter is lying," she rolls her eyes. "She is, isn't she? She's a smart girl. Her parents are nice," my mother smiles.
"Y-yeah," I pout.
"Hey, no pouting! Now, eat your breakfast or you'll be late," she ushers after placing the meal in front of me.
"Yes, ma'am," I say as I mock salute her.
I see her smile at the name and softly pats my head as she walks away. I look down at my breakfast and see that it's pancakes with whip cream, with strawberries on the side and a glass of jasmine tea. I drool at my breakfast and eat it, savoring it.
After eating the delicacy of my mom's cooking, I drink the tea to wash it down. It's funny that I'm drinking tea from the flower I was named after. Putting the dishes in the sink, I walk out of the kitchen and make my way out the house.
"Bye mom," I yell.
"Bye sweetheart, be careful! Don't come home late," she yells back.
"Okay, see you later," I yell back.
Opening the door to my house, I exit. I walk through the compound seeing and greeting other clan members. Since I'm the clan leader's daughter, they somewhat treat me with respect. Leaving the compound, I rush towards the Academy, running.
It's not that I'm going to be late, it's just that I'm eager to see who's on my team. Seeing the academy in the distance, I stop to a fast walking pace and hum a repeating tune.
I smile and wave to fellow students as I make my way through the halls, they wave back, just as happy. As I get closer to the room, I could hear the loud conversations that several people are having. I enter the room and see people scattered across the room. I secretly look for the pink hair that I grew familiar with, but don't see it. Slightly disappointed, I walk towards my seat, which is next my love rival.
Sasuke Uchiha.
I know he's not my love rival, but I consider him that since Sakura has a crush on him. Hence making him my love rival. I don't hate him, but I don't like him.
"Morning Sasuke," I greet with a smile.
"Hn," he grunts.
Okay then...
Seeing as he won't talk, as usual, I take my seat and take out a book from my pouch. Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology for Student Nurses. I sigh and open the cover, reading from where I last left off.
'The human body has three layers of skin, they're called Epidermis, Dermis, Hypodermis/ Subcutaneous Tissue. The Epidermis is the outer layer of skin that you see. Lacking blood vessels, the Epidermis gets oxygen and nutrients from the lower layers. It continually creates new skin cells to replace the dead cells on the surface. The Epidermis also produces Melanin which gives your skin color. The Dermis is the middle layer of skin. It contains three types of tissue and is composed of many cells and structures, including hair follicles, nerves, blood vessels, and oiland sweat glands. The Hypodermis/Subcutaneous Tissue is the last or inner layer of skin. It's made up from fat and and connective tissue that contains larger nerves and blood vessels. It helps your body stay warm and protects your organs from impact. The depths of subcutaneous tissue varies from person to person.'
I stop reading and look up as soon as I hear stampeding coming towards this way. The door slams open and immediately a smile graces my face.
Sakura Haruno.
... And of course Ino Yamanaka.
As they bicker and fight about who was first, I put away my book in it's rightful pouch. I blush as Sakura sets her eyes this way, but I immediately frown knowing the reason; Sasuke. Sighing with sadness, I turn away and just barely notice Naruto sitting next to me. It's not my fault, when I'm reading the world around me disappears.
"Hey Naruto," I smile at the knucklehead.
"Huh? Oh, hi Riko! Look, I got my headband, isn't it cool," he says, asking me with a brilliant grin.
I chuckle, "yeah Naruto it's the best. Congratulations, on becoming a shinobi, you earned it," I smile.
"Thanks, dattebayo," he grins with pride.
