Chapter Forty-nine: The Light

Tumawa naman ito at umiling.

"Hindi ko alam kung babalik pa ako" Callie added after a beat. Nakita naman niyang kumunot ang noo ni Jake.

"Bakit naman hindi ka babalik? Hangrove is your home"

Callie avoided Jake's eyes. "It's pretty lonely in our house..." wala na siyang maisip pang ibang rason. Her reason is pretty stupid but it's the truth.

"You can always stay here"

"You've told me that a hundred times but my answer is the same" Gusto niya pero mayroon paring pumipigil sa kanya. Isa na doon si Gianna. Ayaw din niyang maka abala pa sa mag asawa lalo na't may paparating pang panibagong Sinclaire.

"I want to go to the beach," Callie added with a weak laugh. "Nami-miss ko na maligo sa dagat"

"Dagat lang pala eh. Senri knows a place, dalhin kita doon"

Callie laughed at his sly attempt to make her stay. She rolled her eyes, "California beach po ang gusto ko"

Napa kamot naman ito ng ulo na tila ba'y naiinis. "Don't say that! You sound like your Mom, it's creeping me out. Hindi ka mana sa kanya kasi---"

"Sa'yo ako nag mana. Oo na po. Sa'yo na nga, wala nang kokontra" She finished off with an eye roll again.

"Kapag kumontra na naman Mommy mo, batukan mo na. She keeps on insisting na nag mana ka sa kanya. Tsk. Imposible namang mag mana ka sa ama mong walang kwenta"

Malinaw kay Callie kung gaano kinaayawan ni Jake ang Daddy niya. Napilitan lang naman ang Mom niya na pakasalan ito to uphold the golden rule. But it weren't for him, wala rin siya sa mundong ito. Her Dad is not that bad, hindi katulad ng iniisip ng iba. Mas focused lang talaga ito sa ibang bagay na dapat ay sa pamilya lang.

"You promised to stop insulting my Dad in front of me" Another eye roll.

"Sorry, just slipped. Mabalik nga tayo, Imposible namang hindi ka bumalik. Alam kong isasama ka parin ni Celeste tuwing may mga summits or functions, kadalas dito sa Hangrove ginaganap 'yon"

"I know that. What I mean is baka hindi ako makabalik agad. I probably won't step in this land for a while," Callie sighed. "I want to go. I need to go"

They were silent for a few seconds because of her sudden desperate plea.

"If that's what you want," buntong hininga nito. "Who am I to stop you"

"You're my other Dad" Naka ngiting lumapit dito si Callie at niyakap.

"Great, I'm already the other Sinclaire now I'm the other Dad too" Jake sarcastically whispered.

"Because I am not calling you 'Papi' like you want. Hindi ko gustong pakinggan" The eye rolls are never ending.

"But that's what I want you to call me" Callie can actually hear the pout in his voice. Siguro nga ay naka nguso ito habang magkayakap silang dalawa.

"No"

Minsan natatawa nalang siya sa mga naiisip nito.

"We'll probably visit as soon as the baby is safe to travel," Palabas na sila ng study pagkatapos ng kalahating oras. They just talked about mindless things like the old times. Inalala ni Callie ang lahat ng mga childhood memories niya sa mansyong ito.

"Is it a boy or a girl?"

"It's too early to know gender. Itatanong ko nalang siguro kay Adri. I hope it's twins though, Rianne's tummy is unusually big"
