Pregnant With The Nerds Baby

I wake up to the sound of Ayden crying over the baby monitor. He has his own room now. He's been sleeping through the night for the past few weeks, so I don't know why he's up at 5 am crying.

I get out of bed and go to the room right across from mine and see Ayden laying in his crib crying. Tears screaming down his little face.

"What's wrong baby?" I say and pick him up

He instantly starts to calm down, Sometimes he just needs someone to hold him.

"Did you have a bad dream?" I say like he's going to answer back

I take him into my room with me and lay him down on my chest and cuddle him until we're both back asleep.

This time I wake up to Mary jumping on my bed.

"Ashley wake up. Wake up!!!" She yells

"What do you want?" I ask and sit Ayden on my lap

"It's about Zack"

"What about him?"

"He's awake" she says

"Really?" I say on the verge of tears

"Mhm" she says and smiles and runs out of the room

I put Ayden in his crib since he's still asleep and run down the stairs as fast as I can.

"Dad" I scream

"Yes"

"Is it true?"

He just smiles and nods

"Oh my god. We have to go to the hospital now." I say and start looking for me keys

"Ashley it's possible that he might not remember you." My dad says

"What?"

"The doctor called this morning to tell us he's awake and said Zack doesn't remember the night of the accident at all so we don't know what he remembers."

"He could still remember me. He can't forget me, I'll bring Ayden." I say

"No, it's best if you just go alone. In case he doesn't remember."

I don't even care that I'm wearing pink fluffy pajamas and slippers I grab my car keys and go.

I'm so happy he's awake, I really hope he remembers me.

I make it to his room and before I walk in the doctor stops me.

"Be careful what you say to him. He's very timid right now, We're not sure how much memory loss he's had. It might be very minor but it still could be serve." The doctor says

I don't say anything back I just walk into the room.

He's asleep when I go in so I just sit in the chair beside him, like I always do.

I grab his hand and place it in mine, he looks better he doesn't look as pale. He's starting to get his color back which is a good sign.

I watch the clock, waiting for him to wake up, at this point I feel like everyone was lying to me this whole time that he didn't come out of the coma.

Then I feel him squeeze my hand.

I don't say anything as he opens his eyes, I just sit there staring at him.

He looks a bit shocked when he sees me.

"Ashley?" He asks

I instantly start to cry. Tears roll down my face, my heart breaks at the sound of his voice. To hear him say my name is amazing, and he remembers me.

"Yes, it's me." I say

"Why are you crying?"

"I'm so happy you're awake."

"How long was I in a coma the doctor won't tell me." He says

"6 months"

"6 months?"

"Yes" I say

"Wait, What happened to the baby? My son? You were pregnant weren't you? I can't remember." He says

"Yes I was. He's at home."

"I want to see him" he says

"I'll bring him to you" I say

"What does he look like?"

"Just like you." I show him a picture of Ayden on my phone

"Wow" he says and smiles "He's so big, I missed so much .. I'm so sorry, Ashley. Sorry that I wasn't there."

"It's okay, this wasn't your fault. No one knew this would happen." I say and go over and hug him

He wraps his arms back around me. It feels good to be in his arms again.

"I love you." I say and kiss his cheek

"I love you too"

Right then and there I felt my world finally fall back into place, I feel so much better than I have in months.
