Living in Korea [Henry x Sungmin]

Chapter 3

It’s been a week since Henry’s family started living in Korea. Henry still hated it. He would lock himself in his room. He only goes out of his room for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Inside his room, he would always be in front of his computer and chat with his friends in Canada. Time difference sucks. When his Canadian friends are not online, he would play games or watch videos and sometimes practice with playing the violin.

There was also a time that he was so bored that he actually started to listen to Super Junior. He admitted that their music had a nice beat even if he doesn’t understand the lyrics so he started dancing to it. Then he eventually started researching about them in the internet and also looked up their music videos and English translation to the song lyrics. The next thing Henry knew was that he was learning basic Korean language.

It took a week and 3 days for Sungmin to visit Henry’s apartment again. “I tried… to visit but… um… busy so…” Sungmin tried to explain in English. He really wished that he brought Kibum with him to translate.

But Henry understood what Sungmin was trying to stay. “I understand.” He replied in Korean. Sungmin’s eyes widened when he heard Henry’s Korean reply. “I tried learning Korean from the internet.” Henry explained in English this time.

“You listened to Super Junior?” Sungmin asked in English as he saw that the CD was not inside the case.

“Yeah. I actually liked it.” Henry admitted.

Henry found it weird how he and Sungmin actually got along with each other despite the language barrier. Their conversations were short and sometimes sounded funny because of the pronunciation or grammar whether in Sungmin’s English or Henry’s Korean so they used a lot of hand gestures or pointing figures and even facial expression helps them understand each other better.

It’s been a month since Henry’s family lived in Korea. Henry still hated it but he really liked Sungmin and started to like the other members of Super Junior. Whenever Sungmin would visit in his apartment, it would usually be very late at night or early dawn. Henry would usually be sleeping but he’ll wake up whenever Sungmin would call him on his cellphone then they’ll spend time together even if it’s just for an hour.

There are times when Sungmin would bring Henry to Super Junior’s apartment. Those are the only times when Henry get to be outside of his own apartment. But when Sungmin isn’t around to entertain him, Henry goes back to being miserable.

“Mom. Dad. I can’t take it here. I want to go back to Canada.” Henry said.

“I thought you’re starting to like it here. You already made friends with the Korean idols.” Henry’s mother frowned.

“Henry, you’re being stubborn. You should be open-minded and stop locking yourself in your room. Start going out and see that there are a lot of awesome parks and malls outside. “Henry’s father clearly disapproved of Henry’s behavior.

“The only friends I’ve made are Korean Idols. They’re so famous that they barely have time for me. You expect me to hang out in the mall or amusement parks alone?!?! What if I buy something but I can’t understand Korean so I end up buying something with twice or thrice from its original price?!?! And I don’t like spicy food!!!” Henry argued and went back to locking himself in his room.

Later at night, Sungmin visited Henry. He noticed that Henry doesn’t seem to be in a good mood. “What’s wrong?” Sungmin asked.

“I want to go back to Canada.” Henry replied.

“You don’t like it here?”

“No and please don’t say that I’m going to get used to it. I’m tired of hearing that from my parents.”

Sungmin frowned. “But I like you here.”

Henry blinked. Did Sungmin just confess to him? “What do you mean by that?”

“I…” Sungmin blushed. “…I really like you.”

All of Henry’s hate and anger of being in Korea dissipated because of Sungmin’s confession. “I guess I’ll try staying in Korea for a bit longer.”

“Does that mean…?”

“Yeah, I like you too.” Henry placed a kiss on Sungmin’s lips.
