I don't know how to start this so I'm just gonna go. I have never been to a public school because I've been homeschooled all my life. Because of that I don't get to see a lot of kids. So my only friend is my neighbor Salem. We are the only two kids within 5 miles. Yes, you heard me correctly 5 miles. But it makes sense. About all of the area nearby are not the happiest places. They are dark, gloomy, and for normal people it would be a bad place to live. I say normal people because, Salem and I, enjoy it. We can run around in the darkness and do whatever we want. Night time is the time we sneak out and do whatever we want. Sometimes we just talk, sometimes we climb onto people's roof, and sometimes we just look around. Once we found a dead guy in the sewer. He was long dead and you could see a lot of bone. He had a big coat and jeans on. We found his poked the coat open with a stick and saw a small leather object. His wallet. We took the wallet and it had a drivers license, a library card, and some money. We took the money and counted it up. When we finally counted it we split it among ourselves. We had counted a total of $48. A lot for someone to carry on them. It felt bad stealing from a dead guy but we needed it more than he did. That's how Salem said it at least. We hope for something cool tonight. As soon as the clock struck eleven Salem was on the roof outside my window. I don't know how he did it so exact every time but I ignored it as I climbed out onto the rough sandpaper-like shingles of the roof. "You ready Briar?" He said to me. His long black hair masked slightly masked his eyes. "Let's go" I said as I began to dangle from the roof. He smiled and we jumped off.
