So cold.

It's so dark and so cold. Everywhere I look, darkness surrounds me. I can see my breath. I look around to see that I am in the middle of a dark abyss. I swim across the blackness, trying to find a light.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I see dim figures whispering to each other. I swim closer to listen, careful not to let them see me. The details of the older people become slightly clearer. One, a lady in her thirties or forties, the other seems to be an older teen or a young adult.

Finally, all of their details become crystal clear. It's mother and the man from my dreams. My eyes widen slightly. I try to tune in to their conversation, but only hear bits and parts.

"Do you think she knows about _____________?" Mother asks in a hushed tone.

"No,__________ delusion _________ set up ______ herself. I'll see her _______ will be mine," the strange man replies.

"So she doesn't know ________ brother?" Mother smiles wickedly.

Brother? I don't have a brother. Maybe they aren't talking about me... But mom's smile, it's scary.

"(Y/n) doesn't _______ perfect," he reassures.

Suddenly, the man looks over to me out of the corner of his eyes. Mother vanishes as he turns around. My mouth hangs agape in fear as I back away from him. He walks toward me with a sinister smile. A wall appears behind me and I find myself trapped. He puts one hand on each side of my head and looks down at me.

"Ooh~ Is someone eves dropping? That's not good~" He says in a teasing tone. I try to move away to find that I'm no longer able to move my limbs. I can't even move my facial features, let alone my head. I stare in freight as he continues.

He lifts his hand to show sharp nails. He scratches me the entire length of my arm, leaving a deep mark. His face becomes serious and he frowns in distaste.

"You're nothing, worthless," his features turn to a sickly-sweet smile. "Well, at least, without me. Oh dear, what to do with you? Don't worry (Y/n)-chan, you'll be mine soon enough."

~~~~~~~~
My eyes pop open and I look around. I let out a sigh of relief as I scan my room, realizing that I am now safe. I put my right hand over my chest to try to steady my breathing. After ten minutes of taking deep breaths, my shaking ceases and my breath goes back to normal.
I choose my usual outfit ( you can choose your outfit. I'm horrible at clothing descriptions XD ) and head to the shower. After that I do the usual routine of grabbing a quick breakfast and my bag and head towards the school. I take out my iPod and my earbuds. I put my favorite songs on shuffle as I walk to the school and up the never ending stairs.
~~~~~~~~ Time skip 'cause school is boring ~~~~~~~~

I walk along the hallways towards the entrance of the school. I try to look straight ahead and avoid eye contact. The entire day I have been trying to be distant.

///Flashback///

Hey (Y/n), come sit with us!" Maka invited. A small smile formed on my lips and I nodded. I sat down next to her by the wall and listened to their conversation. I tried to keep quiet during most of the period. As long as I didn't keep too close, it's okay to have acquaintances, right? I tried to keep all of my talking to one sentence at most. They didn't mind though. They would joke around with me and talk to me with kind eyes.

\\\ Present \\\

All of them are really nice to me.

So why am I so persistent on keeping my distance?

As I'm about to walk down the stairs, Maka calls out to me. I turn around to see her with the rest of the gang.

"Liz is hosting a party, you should come!" She smiles down at you. I smile lightly and nod my head.

"That sounds like fun," I reply softly.

"That's great to hear!" Liz cheers as Patty dances around exclaiming "party." "It's in two days."

I peer over to Kid. He is looking at me with a puzzled look. Again. What is it with him and looking at me like a rubix cube? Finally, he speaks up.

"What happened to your arm?" He asks in a slightly worried tone. I give him a quizzical glance before looking down at my arm.

Huh?

For the first time today, I notice a long scratch-looking mark going all the way down the length of my arm. My eyes widen slightly for a millisecond. Isn't that the one I got in my dream?

I smile as reassuringly as I can to Kid. "Oh, I accidentally cut my arm on a metal thing while moving in. It's no big deal," I reply meekly.

"That looks like a nasty cut!" Blackstar comments. Tsubaki nods her head in agreement.

"It's cool, that's for sure," Soul replies with a toothy grin.

"Well, at least you're okay," Kid says, a hint of worry and doubt still in his eyes. "You do know the theme of the party, right?" I shake my head no. "It's a masquerade. It's also a Halloween party."

"O-oh, I don't think I have any masks," I sigh. "Or any Halloween costumes for that matter."

"That's okay," Liz says, "we'll take you out shopping tomorrow. Just the girls. That way, we can have a sleepover before the party too!"

"Yea, the sleepover can be at my house!" Maka offers.

I smile slightly. "Sounds good."
