Hallelujah

Dean was lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling.

"Cas.. please talk to me. Can you hear me? I really really need you right now." He spoke out loud, his voice cracking.

"Please Cas, Sam is gone, he's not coming back." His eyes filled with tears as he pleaded to nothing.

"Cas.. please" He slowly sat up, looking around the room. It was trashed. Mirrors were broken, lamps were on the ground, tables flipped. He had a meltdown when Sam died.

"I need you to sing me to sleep" Dean covered his face with his hands. When he was a little boy, Cas would always come and sing to him. He would sing Hallelujah to put him to bed. Dean hasn't heard Cas sing since he was 8 years old. He missed it. The singing would make him feel safe, protected.

"Come sing Hallelujah to me, I feel so unsafe and lost- I NEED YOU CAS!" He screamed, falling forward onto the bed, sobbing into the blankets.

"Well I heard your prayers from far below
But down in hell, how could you know"

Dean looked up to see Cas sitting on the bed next to him. He smiled weakly.

"Cas... those aren't the words" He sat up and wiped his tears, only to have more come.

"I listened, every word you said, I heard you
But after this
I plead the fifth
Before my fall, after your lift
I swore I heard you say the Hallelujah"

Dean looked up at Cas and smiled.

"A-are you singing your own version of the song?" He could barely speak he was crying so much. Cas took Dean's hands and lightly pulled him onto his back, pulling a blanket up to cover his frail body.

"Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I know you're strong, but I can't explain
I've seen you die over again
Only you would still want to pray to me
She tied me up where angels fall
She made me deaf to all your calls
And from my lips she drew our Hallelujah"

Dean wrapped his arms around Cas' waist and cried into a pillow. Cas was singing Hallelujah.. but he twisted the words to fit them.

"Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Righteous man, that's what they said
But still awake, you'd lie in bed
And listen to the shadows, knife clutched tightly
But when sleep came it could not kill
The fears that on your skin would chill
Those nights I wish I'd sang a Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time when I couldn't say
What truly had led me astray
But now I understand what pushed me from grace
It was your breath, your eyes, your face
Your courage drove to the sticking place
And there I fell all for your Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above
Through you he tried to teach me love
A long and winding road that lead me to you
Don't think that I've abandoned hope
Still I hang onto this rope
I won't let go till I find our Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah"

By the time Cas was done singing, Dean had fallen asleep. His arms that were wrapped around Cas were now lying limp on the bed. He was snoring softly, his cheeks stained with tears. The angel smiled and placed a kiss on his forehead.

"Angels will always be watching over you"
