"Professor Dumbledore," Hermione responds, dropping her head in shame, though not true in any way. "I am not. I honestly would apologize for my lies if I felt any remorse, but I do believe it was best for you to be ignorant."
"That may be the case, but I know now," Dumbledore responds, tilting his head to watch Hermione as her head rises to meet his gleaming eyes. "So tell me, why are you here?"
"You see, I come from the year 1997... a year in which a Dark Wizard, named Voldemort, has nearly taken over our world. He's been murdering hundreds of innocents, and he is after my best friend. You sent me to help our forces by finding the weakness of the Dark Lord."
"And I assume this Dark Lord is Tom Riddle?" Dumbledore implies easily enough, following Hermione's intentions perfectly. Given these past few months, the girl has become especially gifted at hiding the truths through vague language and distorted honesty. And though it may be harder to do this with Dumbledore, she's firm under her new talents.
"Yes, sir. I-I've been able to infiltrate his secret student organization and become his best follower. He's beginning to trust me, sir, and I expect to succeed in my mission by the end of the year," the girl responds, stuttering slightly as she becomes uncomfortable under her true identity as Hermione Jean Granger, the Gryffindor and member of the Golden Trio.
"And if you do not?" Dumbledore asks, prodding at her hidden plans.
"I do not know what I will do," Hermione says, understanding that she will likely fail, but not having some timeline in which to limit her plans and return to the future. "Probably return and hope for the best."
