My Race Defined

Why is my degree of blackness is based on how much blackness is in my ancestry?

Like the mentality of my oppression declines if I have one drop of slave owner in my blood?

The definition of my worth should not be defined and regulated by your misconceptions and preconceptions of your twisted mind

Your confusion tells me, yes you can see my melanin but my Scottish and Irish ancestry disqualifies me from speaking out

As if the injustices that have been apparent before I was born somehow magically disappears once my ancestry is revealed.

My skin the shade of rich caramel and my hair not too kinky but not too straight

Results in your confusion of my actual race

My degree of blackness and whiteness should not be call into question

Instead of questioning of who and what I should be

Why don't you change your ignorant mind?

Unlike you I straddle two dualities

Two races

Two cultures

And two ideologies

The degree of who I am is defined by me alone

And not on you to decide on who I should be.
