Eyes bring
Thoughts and emotion to life.
If only he had known this before
She was torn apart
And drowned in paint.
He wouldn't have left her
In her worse moments
When he couldn't handle
Her pain,
For it was a burden
He should have carried a while longer.
He remembered the dreams she had
Spoken of.
The way her smile
Lit up the room.
He remembered how much
She loved long sleeves,
And how beautiful she was
In her entirety
And how quiet she was.
He wanted to love her.
He also remembered
He wanted to
Change her frown,
Her long sleeves,
And her ugly.
He wanted to fix her,
Because he also remembered
That dreams are nightmares too,
Smiles are masks,
Long sleeves aren't just for winter,
And beauty masks monsters .
Yet he never looked into her eyes.
He never wanted to love her .
He never tried to love her.
He never learned to deal
With her tears.
Because her pain was too much to bear.
When he saw the river of paint
And shreds of a canvas,
He wished he'd never left her.
He now saw her as she was,
A masterpiece so broken
It almost passed as
Sin.
