"What should we do first?" Cass asked as we got to the main gate.
"I have no idea." I sighed, slightly regretting the decision to come here in the first place.
"What about, we play some mini games to get you hyped?" Cass smirked. I nodded, then she led me over to a whole heap of stalls which contained strange looking games that a year ago, would of got me overly excited.
We started the evening by throwing balls into the mouth of cartoon characters. Then shot the teeth out of an awful painting of a horse. We then water shot balls off of towers, and so on. Until the point where we had spent almost two hours giggling while playing stupid mini games that were probably meant for kids.
"Cass, lets go on a ride?" I asked, slightly more hyped than I was before we arrived. She nodded, then followed me toward the go karts. One of the many things Santana had done before. "Do you know how to drive?"
"Not, really. It cant be any different to a car though, right?"
"I haven't driven a car so I don't know." I spoke as we climbed into separate little buggys, then took off before the man running the karts had even said go. Cass and I raced around the track, her crashing into every tire possible, and I was quite the expert considering last time, I did the same as what Cass was doing now.
Numerous rides later, we were tired out. But, of course, we couldn't leave the carnival without going on the ferries wheel. It's like, a carnival tradition. We impatiently waited in line for what felt like hours, before we were signaled to climb into the unstable looking cart. We sat opposite each other as opposed to next to each other. Then began smiling and pointing things out to one another as the cart went round and round in a giant circle, allowing us to see the sun hitting the water front as it was on it's way to hide away for the night.
"I know we have only known each other like a month, but I really feel like we are going to be good friends." Cass stated. "I mean, look how much you and I have gone through together already."
I nodded. "I agree."
"Santana is going to wake up, you know. She wouldn't just leave you and I in the position we are in. And I really don't think she would give up fighting for everything that had finally came good in her life." Cass spoke as she looked out at the other rides. I nodded again, then the ride came to a halt and our carriage was coincidentally at the very top.
"She told me I was her best friend up here," I sighed, thinking of the memories.
"You still are her best friend." Cass assured me.
"I was."
"You are, she knows that."
"And what if she wakes up and has no idea who the hell I am?"
It went silent for a while.
"She will still know, it'll be there somewhere." She replied.
I rolled my eyes, then looked out to the peaceful black ocean.
Every thing was so god damn perfect before Regionals. My relationship was perfect, my family and school life was perfect, my friendships with everything was so damn perfect and now everything is a total mess. And only good or bad can come from this whole experience, and I pray to God that it is good.
"Do you ever think how different things could be right now if the accident never happened?" I questioned.
"I've thought about it, yeah."
"Like, all three of us could be here right now. I could've kissed Santana at the top of this ferries wheel. We could've been waking up each morning and the three of us could've been making breakfast for the family in the morning. It would all be so good, and how it should be. I feel weird not having Santana to experience all of this with me."
"I know, Britt. This is the hard part now, the easy part will come after."
"And what if it isn't easy?" It went silent. "What if what comes next, is hard. What if Santana is in such a state, that if breaks everything we've fought for to get us here, apart." She had no reply once more. "Or worse, what if the next part consists of lowering Santana into a hole in the ground-"
I was cut off by my phone ringing from my pocket.
I grabbed it out, and pressed the answer button.
"Hello?" I answered, unsure who was on the other end of the line.
"Hi, Brittany? We need you to come into the hospital right away." With that, I threw my phone into my pocket, impatiently waited for our carriage to be released, then ran as fast as I could across the yard and to Sonias car which we borrowed. My heart was racing more than it had the time I got told Santana had been rushed to hospital and put on machines.
Cass had no idea what was going on, but that was the least of my worries. I need to get to Santana, and I need to get there fast. And so Cass put her foot down, and before she had even put the car in park, I had dived out the door and was running as fast as my feet would take me threw the hospital and up the four flights of stares. Once I reached the top, a doctor slowed me down.
"What is going on?" I asked, puffing from running almost completely out of breath.
"Shes waking-"
I pushed the doctor out of my way before he could say anymore, and raced into Santanas room where her body was laying still. He said she was waking up, why is she still laying here still and in the same position? Did he get my hopes up for no reason? I ran over to Santanas side and took her hands in mine.
"Santana, I am here. It's me, Brittany. Please wake up, he said you were going to." I had tears trickling down my cheeks as I thought I had missed the chance to see my girl awake for the last time. What if she had woken up, panicked because I was else where, and is now gone for good. I mean, surely the doctors would have told me that, but maybe they don't know either. "Please." I cried.
A doctor appeared at the door, he looked to Santana then down to his clip board.
"What is going on?" I chocked out.
"She stirred, and turned her head slightly. Its a sign that she should be almost completely awake soon. Did you want me to-"
There was a shuffle, and a sniff. I turned my head to see the brown orbs flickering, and searching for a face. My eyes were now exploding in tears, as I gripped onto Santanas hand tighter. I had no words, but I felt fucking fireworks. My girl, was awake, she was alive. Her eyes were drowning in my own. She looked confused, yet so calm and peaceful. She looked to the light then squinted, then looked back to me. Only her eyes were moving, but that was enough to send me over the moon with excitement.
"Santana, I love you so much." I chocked out.
"Do-do, I-I, know, you?"
