Why the hell did I come to this? This is not the place for me. Nicole’s let’s-get-drunk-and-do-stupid-things is not working for me. Not with work tomorrow. I do have a job to go to tomorrow. I’m not like her and write for a living. Where is she? I’ve got to find and tell her I’m leaving. As I make my way through this wretched bar, I finally find her dancing with some random guy. Great. I have to yell Nicole three times before I get her attention.

“What do you need Abbey?”

“I’m leaving I’ve got work tomorrow.”

She smirks, “Okay talk to you tomorrow, doctor.”

She turns back and starts to dance again.

As I push my way through the crowded club I get a couple whistles and “Hey Baby.” Yeah, no. You my friend can kiss my ass.

I finally get to my apartment and kick off my shoes and sit on the couch. I grab my ipad and pull up my email. Hmm, there’s one from mom. Why can’t she just call me? Let’s see:

Abbey,

I need you to come home for a couple weeks. I know you have work and other obligations, but your cousin James is coming here and he is bringing a friend. He wants to see you and stay at your place here. Call me in the morning. I didn’t call you because you told me you had plans with Nicole tonight.                                                                                                                                             Love, Mom

So James is coming to Tennessee. I smile to myself. I love that kid. I wonder who this friend is and why he wants to stay at my place. It’s all packed up. Hmm, I’ll call mom and talk to her tomorrow.

Why do I have to get up so early? Ugh. I love my job but being up so early is dreadful. After I’ve worked out and dressed, I call my mom.

“Hey mom! What are you up to?”

“Nothing much, just getting stuff together for James’ visit.”

“Ah, so why does he need to stay with me. It’s not that I have a problem with it I’m just wondering why.”

“He told me the friend he is bringing needs a room connected to an office and yours is the only one that has that, and his friend has never been to Tennessee and he figured you could help show him around.”

“Well okay. When does he get in?”

“The day after tomorrow.”

“Okay I’ll try to get some people to cover my job.”

“Alright I love you honey.”

“Love you too.”

“Abbey, your dad will be on a business trip so he won’t be here."

“Okay mom I was going to come either way. Bye.”

I should’ve asked what the friend’s name was. Oh well, I head to work and spend the next few hours finding colleagues to cover my shift. It helps when they know they’ll get a pay raise. At lunch I book my flight that leaves this evening.

As I finish packing I get a text from my dad

'Abbs, I need you to train someone.'

Nope I’m not answering that. I will not train someone to do what he wants. No. I close out of the message and catch a  cab.

I land in Tennessee and head to my cabin. I need to clean it up, so it doesn’t knock them down with dust when they arrive. I finish cleaning the next day. I really need to go check on a house I have back in the country, but I need the two of them to get here first. I sit down on the couch and turn on Criminal Minds.
