soft whispers in the eventide

soft whispers in the eventide

There's too much wind outside my windows -
                too loud for me to hear my own voice inside my own head.
The streets are dark and the rain is a comfort,
But each shadow seems to be just waiting to overcome me.

Let me out of here so I can fly somewhere else,
Someplace where no one knows my name.
Maybe I can start over
And be anonymous before I am anything else.

I'm tracking down the riverside
Looking for that old red slide
We used to play on every day
When rain was flooding up the bay.

The only thing I need and I have to stay away;
How does that make sense, in any universe?
There's no solace to be found in your melodies -
Just makes me wish I was next to you.
I'm talking about you all the time,
(But that can't bring you to my side)
Wishing I could grow wings and fly back to you.

All those moments I missed and you missed -
All that's in the past now.

Tonight the stars will shine our way
And I'll meet you on the silence in between.
Give me a smile, love, and take my hand;
And lead me home back to you.

The road seems long and the bridge unstable,
But you know I'll never let you fall.

If I die before I wake and don't see you again -
I think I'll just stay awake,
Maybe I'll just stay awake.
What else could I do to say
I belong here
So that you can understand
And let me end the day?

Tonight the stars will shine our way
And I'll meet you on the silence in between.
Give me a smile, love, and take my hand;
And lead me home back to you.
