Chapter 6
“Learning something new every day”
Like before, Elliot waited for Rzak to meet him at Bounds Green tube station. He was expecting Rzak to be there waiting, but he was doing his ironic dramatic unexpected entrance, which he did:
“You ready?” He asked, walking towards Elliot
“Wait, wait, wait, i don’t want to go all dark again, I want to see wherever your taking me is.”
“Lets... compromise” Rzak said, and gently placed his hand on Elliot’sshoulder. Suddenly, everything went dark for a split second and then Rzak and Elliot were in the concrete building they were in before. “Wow! How did you-“Elliot began but he ran to the corner of the room and starting coughing until he threw up. “Teleportation.” Rzak stated “One of the hardest powers to master can only be used in short sharp bursts of emotion. Weather that be positive or negative” he continued, yet Elliot was still throwing up. “So...” Elliot came out of the corner and was whipping the vomit from his mouth onto his sleeve “what you’re saying is, powers need short sharp bursts of emotion?”
“No, but certain powers do” Replied Rzak “What do you want to learn first?”
“Have you any water?” Elliot asked. Rzak didn’t reply, he just swept some dust off of one the walls and held out his palm out at Elliot and he could see that the particles of dust in the air that were coming off the wall. They were coming together and separating at times, moulding, fusing and shaping in to a sphere. A bubble of water was created, floating in the air above Rzaks palm and it drifted towards Elliot. Elliot simply grasped the sphere and drank. It felt weightless, like he was in space. “I’m not even going to ask how-“
“Elemental powers are needed only for non-violent means, and require a sustainable degree of energy, less emotion but still useful. Extremely hard though, only people who have being studying PACE for decades can master it”
“Wait... how old-“
“That’s for another time. Let’s start with strength”
“Oh...okay” Elliot said, nervously and cautious of what Rzak could do. Rzak motioned a wave to a concrete wall and a large concrete slab moulded out of the concrete wall, but it didn’t leave a gap; the wall just moulded itself back and left no mark, no evidence that it had happened. The mould of concrete came at Elliot “The concrete slab will get faster and faster until you can break it” Rzak stated
“You’re telling me to hit a concrete slab?” Elliot said shocked
“Yes. Otherwise, it will just get faster and faster” Rzak responded, the concrete slab slowly went past them “Each time the slab reaches the other side of the room; it will mould into it and appear on the other side of the room until you break it. Notice I’m saying ‘break’, not ‘hit’” Rzak explained as the slab moulded into the opposite side of the room.
“Why?” Elliot asked
“Think of it as a trusting exercise”. Elliot looked at the slab, but did nothing and waited. Somehow thinking of how to approach the slab. He had to act fast, as it wouldn’t slow down.
“I’ve got an idea” Rzak said, trying to help “ill count down from 20” shouting over the moving concrete.
“How is that going to help?”
“Just try”
As the concrete moved faster and faster, he could feel his hands harden and his face could feel the pushed cold air coming from the concrete as it seemed to go on a reckless and uncontrollable cycle. Razak began to count “20” somehow, Elliot could feel the weight and the speed of the concrete, “19” everything got heavier and heavier, “18” slowing down, and his heart began to pump “17” it seemed like the earth stood still “16” or at least tilted or relied in this very instance. “15” The pressure was overpowering ”14” Razakcounted getting slower and slower, it took him a few seconds to say the whole number. “13” Elliot could feel that everything was running slow, at an uncontrollable rate “12” yet he still felt he was in control “11” he couldn’t figure out how he was doing it “10” but he just went with the flow and the energy being generated from both the concrete and himself “9” his fists clenched “8” he took one step forward “7” as the concrete moved past him “6” he moved his shoulders and his hands so that they were opposite where the concrete was going to come from “5” he felt his body strain and tense up as he heard the concrete mould into the wall behind him “4” he saw the slab coming at him “3” it was 3 feet away from him now “2” his body couldn’t get any stronger, his heart was beating so hard it was ringing in his ears and he took the deepest breath possible before he was face to face with the concrete. 1. Instead of it crashing straight into him, the concrete moulded around him, crinkled and cracked, burst and smashed as it went around him. Elliot couldn’t feel any intimidation; he was perfectly confident and prepared and when the concrete slab was behind him, his body relaxed and he took a deep breath. He could feel that the vibrations in his veins, bubbling and boiling his blood were getting colder, as the concrete slab shattered all around the room
“Impressive”
