I wake up lying on the cold, hard ground. I push myself up with my fists and immediately feel overwhelmingly dizzy. There’s something sticky on my hands, so I look at them. Blood. It’s my blood. I feel the back of my head, blood. I sit up and take in my surroundings. It’s too dark to see much. I fumble around until I find a flashlight and turn it on. I gasp in utter shock and horror. He’s there, lying unconscious on the ground, crumpled up in the corner.

“No,” I say. I crawl over to him and put my head on his chest. I hear his heartbeat, “Please, wake up. I’m sorry. This is all my fault.”

I stand up and almost fall over because of the dizziness. I have to fix this, I think to myself, just keep going.

I shine the flashlight around the room, it’s just how I remember it. I walk over to the window. This is the easy part, you can do this, I think. I break the window with my foot.

“Shit!” I whisper.

The glass cut my leg. I sit back down and tear a piece of cloth off of my shirt. I tie the piece of cloth to my cut to stop the bleeding. I stand back up and clear the glass from the ground. I carefully take the rest of glass out of the window pane. I drag him over to the window and push him out of it. I press my ear to the door to make sure no one is near. When silence ensures safety I climb out of the window.
