"I hope we're sorted in Gryffindor, Slytherin is where all the dark wizards are from." said eleven-year-old James Potter.

"Well, you've said that for the 42nd time now, may as well give me a galleon every time you say it." said his best friend as she pushed her trunk trolley as they approached the wall to station 9 ¾.

"Now," began Mrs.Potter "I want you two to behave, and study well, which I know you will do, and write to us often. And no pranks, you hear me?" both of them nod their heads, smiling mischievously.

"It'll be quick," said Mr.Potter "Just like those Muggle up-and-down things, what do you call 'em-"

"Elevators?"

"Ah yes, that's the word, elevators. And don't hesitate or take too much time, you don't want anyone to see you."

They ran into the wall only to be met with the Hogwarts Express standing there magnificently, and obviously, children bustling about.

Before they got on, Euphemia Potter kissed both of their heads.

"Your mother and father would've been very proud." she whispered to the girl, who smiled warmly and hugged her, thinking of how she had carefully said the sentence, knowing it was a topic which was rarely talked of.

"I'll miss you, Aunt Mia." she said

Hands stuck out of the train's window, two of them waving at Mr and Mrs Potter. She once again called out "No pranks!" and they grinned wider. Little she did know that they have a lot planned for that matter.

"Hallo, alright if I sit here? Never mind asking, there's no other place anyway. Well there was, but this boy had had a grand breakfast today, and couldn't stop his stink trumpet!" which cracked both of them up as the boy sat down beside them. He had grey eyes and his curly black hair fell on his face, and introduced himself as

"Oh, I'm Sirius, by the way. Sirius Black. And I hope you haven't had a huge breakfast too."

"My mum's a Muggle, and my dad's a wizard, so I know some Muggle stuff. Oh, and my dad's an Auror. When I grow up, I want to be like him" said Remus, his green eyes twinkling. Alyssa merely smiled, with no clue as to who an Auror was. She was thankful that she met someone her age (and not some scary senior) and who knew about muggles, which she apparently was till an owl dropped a letter at her doorstep, and mixed emotions of surprise and happiness had flooded in her, and in the excitement of learning more she barely felt homesick at all. Well, she will miss her friends and school, but now she was a witch, a first year witch of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It still felt surreal to her, almost like a dream. She pinched herself.

Suddenly a red haired girl with emerald green eyes and a pale and rather grumpy boy with his greasy black parted in the middle to resemble a mushroom; burst into their compartment. The girl started to say, "Mind if we-"to which Remus and Alyssa replied "Not at all" in unison. The redhead smiled and said, "Thanks. We had quite a nice compartment with three other students, when this fellow asked for our names, which is Lily Evans and Severus Snape, by the way, and that nincompoop started teasing my poor friend," Alyssa and Remus look at her 'poor friend', who had a scowl on his face "and called him Snivellus! How rude!" said Lily.

Alyssa held her book up, trying not to laugh at the comical expression Severus had, while Remus kept a straight face, trying not to do the same.

Alyssa dozed off, only to be woken by Lily exclaiming "We're here!"

After they changed into their robes, they got off, a giant man yelled out for first years. He introduced himself as Hagrid, and though many found intimidating, she thought he looked friendly.

The four sat in a boat which took them to Hogwarts and Hagrid knocked the huge doorway thrice, which was opened by a lady, who they later learned was Minerva McGonagall.

She led them to the Great Hall, where the sorting ceremony was to be held. All the first year students lined up with the Hat sitting in front of them and hundreds of eyes boring into them. From a really talkative girl called Marlene, Alyssa heard that Gryffindor is the best house. She hoped she'd be sorted into Gryffindor, though Ravenclaw sounded good too.

Suddenly the Hat broke into an amusing song and then the ceremony began, Professor McGonagall began calling out names.

"Ayres, Henry"

"Hufflepuff!" the Hat yelled.

"Adams, Timothy"

"Ravenclaw!"

"Black, Sirius" to which a grey eyed boy with hair the colour of his last name sat on the stool smiling. The hat was about to shout out the house name when it suddenly stopped. It looked like it was deep in thought. Then finally it shouted

"Gryffindor!"

A few gasps were heard from the Slytherin table. Sirius went and sat at the red and golden table, the smile wider than ever.

"Blanche, Alyssa"

Lily squeezed her hand and Alyssa went and sat on the stool.

"Gryffindor!" the Hat shouted. Relief flooded through her as she joined the rest of the Gryffindor.

"Evans, Lily"

Snape gave her a thumbs up. She sat on the stool and wore the Hat, and it announced

"Gryffindor!"

Snape frowned. Lily gave him a smile anyway and sat beside Alyssa.

After a few more D's and H's, the professor called out Remus.

"Gryffindor!" and Remus grinned.

"Mulciber, Atticus"

"Slytherin!"

"Potter, James"

"Gryffindor!"

A hazel eyed boy came and sat beside Remus, smiling. He seemed friendly, but the look Lily was giving him wasn't quite a nice one.

Severus, of course, was put in Slytherin, and although he was happy to be in the house he wanted, he still sulked when he saw Lily happily chatting with fellow Gryffindors.

Another name was called, and a girl with honey coloured eyes sat on the stool. She had this tom-boyish vibe to her. She sat on the stool, and before the hat even touched her head it yelled, "Gryffindor!"

James whooped with joy and she gave him a high five as she sat beside him.

After the headmaster Dumbledore's speech, various delicacies appeared out of thin air and everyone started devouring them.

"Oy", Lily nudged Alyssa. She looked up and blushed when she realized that the girl sitting beside James was waiting for her to speak, and she had been too busy eating to notice.

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your words." Alyssa said, feeling sheepish.

"Well, the food is good here!" James chuckled, making her turn redder. She mouthed a 'shut up' to him and said

"It's okay, I just asked what your name is."

"Oh, my name is Alyssa Blanche."

"Hello Alyssa, I'm Emma Winter."
