We ran through the fog killing and dodging zombies. 10k shot his rifle and it killed a zombie In Front of me and I dodged another zombie and sliced its head off. I flipped back over ones shoulder shooting it and we ran over to a building where everyone was grouped up. Murphy stood behind us preventing the zombies from attacking.
"Just break the glass" doc inquired
"No then the Z's will be able to get in" Warren informed him as she tried to pry open the door. I moved closer to 10k and he held my hand. The door opened and a man with curly hair stood behind it he stepped back as Warren and doc walked in, 10k and I followed addy and Vasquez inside. A group of people stood behind a half wall pointing guns at us.
"Welcome" a man said as he Leaned against a stick.
Warren grabbed the man who opened the door pushing him forward with the gun to his head as we aimed our guns at the other group.
"Turn around and go back the way you came" the man with the stick said as his group clicked their bullets into place.
"We can't , too many Z's out there" Warren said
"Who's in charge here?" She asked
"I am, my names gideon gold I'm the facilitator here" he responded
"But we don't really have a leader, everyone here participates in decision making" he explained as he walked down the few stairs towards us.
"Great we just need shelter until the smoke clears" Warren said
"And it would be great if your people pouted their weapons in another direction" Murphy added and the man nodded causing the people to lower their weapons. A women stepped forward
"This is the talking stick when we have group meetings we pass it around, like a bowl of popcorn" the women explained with a smile
"We were all at a cooperate seminar when the outbreak hit and if it wasn't for Gideon we'd all be dead" the women explained and we just nodded
"Let's play a quick game called honesty inventory where I make first impressions on al of you" Gideon said smiling and he turned to Warren "you are the leader, a natural and you have a wisdom that is born of loss" he said before looking at Vasquez
"You are the enforcer your tough but your scars cloud your judgement" Vasquez lowered his gun as the man turned to addy
"You are the string one, there's a lot of loss in those eyes more then you can handle" he pointed to Roberta "she relies on you" he turned to doc "you've got a face that's etched with sadness and yet, somehow you manage to keep your sense of humor" he smiled at doc before moving to 10k
"Son, you've got a good heat but your angry you don't like him, you don't like each other" he looked over at Murphy
The man turned to me next
"You two are alike" he looked between 10k and I
"You rely on each other, you'd be lost without the other." He looked at me
"You would risk your lives for one another and no doubt that you have in the past" I smiled up at 10k who kissed my forehead and Gideon moved on to Murphy.
"You have the weight of the world on your shoulders don't you? I can see it you do more for these people then they relize" Gideon said turning to all of us.
"I feel we now all have a trust, what do you think?"
"We'll stand down" Warren said and we lowered out weapons.
"Let's have two people from each group talk it over and kind of resonate I choose Dana who do you choose?" Gideon asked
"Addy" Warren said without hesitation
"All right, thanks everybody" Gideon smiled
Zombies banged on the walls, startling us as warren and addy went to negotiate.
10k held my hand tighter as a man named iggy started to show us around with doc.
"We kept losing people during black summer and couldn't defend the entire hotel so... We abandoned the rooms to stay on this floor.
"You guys have been here the whole time?" 10k asked
"Yea we have thought bout leaving or atleast I have but the group just votes me down. My company sent me on this retreat to work on my people skills and that was four years ago" iggy said as he poured as water. I drank some of mine as 10k asked a question
"I've never stayed in a hotel before Do you guys have a pool, I've always wanted to swim in a pool" 10k asked
"Your drinking it" iggy said and 10k and doc exchanged a look as I almost did a spit take.
"Don't worry! We boil and filter everything, let me show you where we keep the good under lock and key" iggy said happily.
"We lock up all the food since we noticed someone was taking some, so I do the cooking and the cleaning. I even clean up after the janitor, guess I should be glad I'm alive"  he said smiling
"Now why don't you guys go relax in the ballroom and I'll see if I can scare up some blankets" he said with a laugh and doc lead us there. There were couches and chairs, it was a normal ballroom, what looked like an old DJ hookup, some tables that once were probably set out for food, a dance floor surrounded by carpet. Doc laid down on one of the couches and fell asleep immediatley. 10k laid down on the couch and patted the spot next to him wich I laid down on, he wrapped an arm around me pulling me against his chest and I closed my eyes. I jolted awake as a gunshot pierced my ears. I sat up quickly and stood. 10k wasn't there anymore and neither was doc. I ran down the hall seeing Vasquez, warren,  doc and a few of the people who had been here.
"The shot came from in here, one, two , three!" Vasquez said and busted into the room. Seeing Murphy laying on the ground a gunshot in his shoulder "Murphy" Warren said doc rushed to his side
"Iggy clear off the bar, Jan get the first aid kits Gideon ordered and 10k appeared beside me. The two of us stood in the back as everyone argued over why the other man who was shot wasn't dead or turning
"Tie him up!" Gideon ordered as doc observed him.
"He has a concussion maybe even worse" doc said
"Dana come here" Gideon said and she jogged over to him.
"Okay everybody come and join us in the trust circle" Gideon said and we walked into the 'trust circle' I sat in a chair next to 10k.
"We're gonna resolve this peacefully" Gideon said
"That's going to be hard considering one of you just shot one of us" Warren snapped
"You can't prove that!" Someone yelled
"Please calm down" Gideon said
A zombie banged on the glass and I tensed up
A man walked over to the stick taking it and looked at 10k.
"I saw him sneaking around before the shooting happened" everyone's eyes were now on 10k.
"I saw him too, right after the shot was fired" another man piped up
"He's acting suspicious" the man continued and I made a move to get up but 10k placed his hand on my knee stopping me
"There's an unresolved conflict between you and Murphy" Gideon said looking a t 10k.
"10k doesn't miss" Addy said  and Gideon looked at her
"Hold on" he said and Dana took the stick handing it to addy
"If 10k wants something dead, it's dead" she said standing "and he would never try to kill Murphy" she handed the stick back to Gideon who gave it to 10k.
"Murphy's not my friend, never will be. I have more than enough reasons to want to kill him. And when the time comes I will kill him happily but it's not the time" 10k said and I held his hand tighter
"How can we trust you?" A man said angrily
"Because he didn't fire that shot" Vasquez said walking in and dropping a bag full of food on the floor.
"One of you did, looks like someone has a get away stash. Murphy must have stumbled upon it and gotten shot" Vasquez explained
"If it's true one of us has been stealing food and there is only one other person who has acsess to our supply" he looked at iggy
"It wasn't me I swear" he protested
They grabbed iggy and brought him downstairs as Warren and Vasquez tried to save him.  They threw him out and give him a hammer. He stood outside crying and I fronted and 10k pulled me against his chest trying to soothe me.  10k snuck around towards some stairs as I laid down on the couch. A zombie ran against the wall outside and I flinched.  I heard gunshots and footsteps. I stood up and saw 10k running at me.
"Come on" he said grabbing my hand and leading me down the hall to wear Murphy was still unconscious where doc was standing.
He grabbed his gun and I grabbed mine. Zombies banged on the walls as the glass started to crack.
"This gates not gonna hold" 10k said and glass shattered 10k grabbed me and we ran into the other room the others following. We closed the doors. 10k held me close to him as Greg woke up, doc asked who shot him and we all looked over at a man.  Who aimed guns at us.
"If anyone moves I want hesitate to kill you, Dana come on, we are getting out of here" he said as Greg shot the man. Everyone lifted their guns and the man turned into a zombie, Warren shot him. Someone was knocking and 10k pushed me behind him before opening the door and there was iggy. He walked in and they claimed the doors behind them.
"Iggy on behalf of everyone we are sorry" Gideon said
"Your sorry?" Iggy laughed
"For all the people who aren't here to do this..." Iggy said before smashing Gideon's head with the stick and Gideon fell dead. Murphy sat up
"What did I miss?" He asked and the Z's walked away. After the smoke cleared we packed the car. The corporates were now safe. I sat on 10k's lap in the back seat and rested my head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me and I smiled
"I love you" he said
"Love you too" I smiled
