Teacher's Pet

Ch.1

"Aaron! Dan! Dinner's ready!" She shouts to my brothers who are upstairs playing video games. Within seconds, I hear their footsteps that sound like a herd of hippos is running down the stairs. They rush into the kitchen, nearly slipping on the tile because of their socks.

"Slow the stampede!" They both scowl at me and I laugh. Aaron sits down next to me with a tortilla hanging out of his mouth. when dan sits down he swipes the hanging tortilla out of his mouth eating it in front of Aaron. I burst out laughing and my mom scowls at them. smacking aaron with a tortilla as she passed him to sit in her seat. dan and i nearly choked on our food. 

"enough! now Aaron for love of Jesus himself, graduate this year cabron!" Aarron got held back because of his grades in basically every class he had  was an F or a -D and actually goes to my school even though he is older than me by a couple years, if he doesn't graduate this year they'll drop him because he's going to be in his 20's. I'm surprised they still let him on the basketball team but I guess since he's their best player they're trying to hold onto him long as they can. Dan is younger by 3 years and goes to the middle school next to my high school. It's his last year there and I can't wait for Aaron and me to teach him about high school. My brothers and I are pretty close and they will protect me from; boys to fights and everything in between. they take the rap for me all the time and I owe them my life pretty much. for example, when I sneak out or like another example with dan, if Aaron and I sneak out he'll keep watch and text us if something is going on at home etc. I think I have the coolest brothers in the world... although I would never tell them that, I have a reputation to maintain. i just hope they know that.

mom turned on the speaker playing salsa music on low for background noise. dad loved listening to good music while he had mom's cooking, he said it made it feel more like home. it's been a tradition since they were only dating.  after we had all eaten dan and i washed and dried the dishes by hand after aaron gathered them and then he put them away when dan and i were finished. mom did some laundry and started a movie for us. the three of us sat with mom on the couch and watched one of the many novelas she enjoyed until we fell asleep to sound of gasping and crying in spanish.

                               Next Morning

The pulling of the blinds and the light from outside made me cringe. I cover myself completely with my comforter but my Mom pulls it off. "Miranda get up," she told me as if it were going to actually get me out of bed. i don't remember when i got up to my room, i fell asleep on the couch. either aaron carried me or mom is strong as hell.

"Five more minutes." I groan.

"No, I refuse to let you be late on your first day." She stands her ground and crosses her arms.

"What time is it?" I take a peek at the clock next to me just as my Mother says the time.

"Six-thirty." my brain wants to shut down and go back to sleep but I knew if I did that my mother would release hell on everyone who sets foot in her path for the rest of the day and I can forget about asking her for money or whatever else may pop up.

"I got time," I reply covering my eyes.

"You take like an hour to get ready now up!" She says, trying to pull me from my bed by my arm.

"Alright, I'm awake!" I say with one hand on the floor keeping myself from falling all the way out of bed as She walks out the room triumphantly. I walk to my bathroom while rubbing my eyes.

I look in the mirror to see my wavey cranberry, red hair was frizzy as fuck. I brush my hair to untangle it before I get in the water. I take a warm shower, dry myself off and go back into my bedroom with the towel wrapped around my body. browsing my closet for something to wear today, I pull out a plain white muscle crop top, black skinny jeans with two rips at the knee, with some black ankle boots, then i put on some socks and shoes. I walk back into my bathroom and brush my hair again to get all the shower tangles out. I put my bangs to the side and the rest of my hair went down, parted on each shoulder. I quickly blow-dry my hair in my everyday style and continue with my dental hygiene. finishing off with some light makeup the basics with added eyeliner and lip tint. before leaving my room I grabbed a pair of dark blue circle sunglasses to add to the style I'm going for today placing them atop of my head as I go downstairs, following the short path to the kitchen.

The aroma of pancakes fills the air and I gladly breathe in the outstanding smell. Aaron along with Dan were already at the table halfway done with their meal. I sit down and grab a plate with pancakes and eggs, I finish as fast as possible so I could get school. I drink a glass of water before I leave the kitchen.

taking my keys off the rack, grabbing my backpack, I was off to school. My mom is driving Dan to school and Aaron always hitched a ride with me or walked. he said he ' likes the serenity and exercise'. i think he just likes to smoke a doobie before he actually gets to campus. I get to school and meet up with girls I talk to who have some of my classes. They like the same things I do so I guess they're withstandable. they go on to talk about the youtube videos about makeup and one girl who watches gameplay videos.

"what did you do this past summer, Miranda?" niviana asked me, grabbing my attention away from my phone.

"nothing much, my brothers and I went out on some adventures and our mom came with us for a couple of them too,"I tell her as everyone cues in on our conversation, making me feel like what I have to say is important.

"what did yall do?" Lily inquired about my adventures this summer, furthering the topic.

"we went to the falls that are maybe six hours north of here. we did some hiking through the national forest and we also went to the arcade a few times while we were resting in between each outing that took more than an hour of effort." I giggled at my own joke that no one but myself understood.

"well that does sound fun, we should go hiking one of these days if you're up for it?" Lily turned to Melanie, me and then niviana.

shocked that I was actually invited for once I was hesitant on the offer. " I don't know I'd have to see what my mother says." lying through my teeth they don't get to push the subject because of the loud creek the door made when it was opened, gathering everyone's attention.
