when you are little
you fear the monsters
that hide under the bed
or deep in the dark
where you can't quite see them
as you grow up though
you learn something new
the monsters have climbed into your head
and are hiding in plain sight
where you can't get rid of them
then at some point
you realize
that while you weren't looking
you became them
and suddenly there is no going back
because you are the monster now
