Min Ísland

Up in the north

isolated and alone,

a small island was created,

a thousand years ago.

Geography against the odds

Volcanos erupt giving everyone a scare,

except of course

to the people who live there.

Once a small state,

stands a new country proud.

Quietly thanking their parents,

for teaching them what they needed to know.

The citizens of the new republic shout;

Íslands þúsund ár!*

Íslands þúsund ár!

Ó, lands vors guð!*

Through Volcano eruptions,

putting Europe on pause.

And a financial crisis, threatening the young nation to fall

this little viking island has been through it all.

Translations (Icelandic):

Íslands þúsund ár - Iceland's thousand years

Ó, lands vors guð! - Our God's country!
