Chapter 5: Back from Edolas

Start from the beginning

He hopped off her lap and landed on the floor. Levy watched intently and her eyes widened as the small exceed began to grow into a giant, muscular panther-like form.

"WOAH!" Levy shrieked, standing up to him with a huge smile. "You're even taller than Gajeel!"

Gajeel smirked. He had been waiting all day to show Lily off to her.

Levy turned around to Gajeel and sat back down next to him. "He's really something Gajeel" She smiled at him.

He nodded. "I know, he's my partner now. Ain't no Salamander or little sky dragon gonna out beat me with their cats. Gihi.." He grinned.

Levy chuckled at him. She was glad they could have normal conversations like these, and that he actually listened to her and paid attention to her when she spoke. She still wasn't sure if he considered her a friend or not, but she definitely wished he did. She didn't realize she had been staring at him the whole time she was in thought, his face was scrunched up like he was trying to read her mind or something as he stared back at her. She blushed and looked to the other side of the guild.

"Wanna get something to eat?" Gajeel asked.

Levy's eyes widened and she turned back around, only to have her hopes crushed as she realized he was talking to Lily. Lily nodded up at him. They both stood up.

"Bye guys." Levy sighed.

"See ya shrimp"

"Pleasure meeting you" Lily waved at her and followed Gajeel out of the guild.

Levy slumped into her seat and sighed louder, she really had thought he was talking to her. She laughed at herself.

You really think he wants anything to do with you Lev? She thought to herself. You're the opposite of what he wants, don't fool yourself. You are Levy Mcgarden. A weak, useless..... shrimp. She cringed at the thought of the word. It bothered her that he would always give her that label. But that's all she was, a small, fragile, shrimp.

"Levy wanna come out to eat with us?" Jet and Droy walked up to her, they obviously had been watching the whole scene with Gajeel.

She nodded, grabbing her bag and standing up. She was really hungry and she really wanted some sushi with her boys. It was one of their usual routines.

They all walked out together. Their footsteps creating pitter-patters down the silent street.

"So... " jet broke, "What's the deal with Gajeel?"

Levy whipped her head around to him and laughed nervously "Hehe.. What do you mean?"

"Do you like him or something?" Droy walked closer to her, his face in a frown.

"What?! You guys! seriously?!" Levy furrowed her eyebrows. "That's none of your business and plus Gajeel and I are just friends!"

"Friends?" Jet asked, his voice louder. "How the hell are you friends with the fiend?!"

"Fiend?! He's a good person, Jet."

"Pft haha! okay sure! He's the same guy who beat us senseless on THIS VERY STREET!" Jet yelled at the top of his lungs, standing over Levy like a tower his arm pointed down the street. His face furious.

Levy was frightened and she clenched her fists. "J-jet..." She trailed of to look around the street, it had been in fact, the same street Gajeel had attacked them.

She fell to the ground and began to cry. She knew Gajeel was a changed man, her heart was torn that Jet and Droy would never forgive him, they wouldn't even give him a chance. Gajeel had been trying so hard these past months. If she could forgive him, why the hell couldn't they? Jet's jaw dropped as he stared down at Levy, guilt flashing over his face.
