-November 21, San Diego CA-

“I’m not crazy!”  I yell into the phone checking the clock on the glowing laptop screen in front of me.  It is eleven am now.  I didn’t sleep last night. It was the internet, but not my typical mindless web browsing; instead I was on a mission—am on a mission.  On the other end of the line is Rebecca, a longtime friend and coworker.

“Do you want me to come over to make you feel better?” she teases.

“I start in a few hours and am exhausted—been up all night, you know—”

“Looking up monsters, I know you told me, you need to see a doctor.”

“It’s real, it looks so real.”  She isn’t buying it—I doubt she would, but at least she is someone to talk to.

“Look, what do you want?”

I sigh, truth is I didn’t call her this time to chill like we at times do, I actually had a more serious motive, “Can you cover my shift?”  I know she doesn’t work Saturdays, she also almost always works mornings meaning we only ever see each other between the morning and night shifts, kind of sad, she’s great company.  Asking for a Saturday night shift covered is a lot though, it’s a busy night and my particular shift is the long one, two-ten.  An exhausting shift for someone such as Rebecca who opens the next morning at seven.

The long silence tells me she’s actually considering it.  Finally, “What time?”

I know she can’t see it but I crack a sly smile, “Two to ten?”

It is like I can sense her roll her eyes, she does that a lot.  I expect a no and an excuse.  “Fine, get some rest.  I’ll stop by after to make sure you’re okay.  Lay off the drugs.”

I let loose a short chuckle I’m sure she can’t hear through the phone, “Thanks so much.”

“You own me one Neel.”

“I know, thanks so much.”

“You’re welcome.” She hangs up.

I toss my phone across my room and onto my bed and turn back to the screen I have open on my computer.  Arboulus, demon of foresight.  Though the picture isn’t particularly close to the hairy winged beast with claws I’m experiencing, the details of his effects are pretty close.  Pretty much this demon haunts certain people for extended periods of time giving those he haunts grueling visions of the future.  The issue with his visions is that they are often false or greatly exaggerated, almost as if to scare the haunted.  On the website examples include an intense life-threating fire representing a soon to be broken stove light or a bed-ridden boy covered in welts and wheezing representing an oncoming cold.

At the same time this demon is very mischievous, often using his powers to direct the haunted into certain situations to explore how they act.  With these directions there is one thing he is infamous for, the event Arboulus shows its muse is always much, much worse if the person refuses or is unable to get to it to see it happen.

Now I know there’s been no future telling that’s happened yet, unless the car throwing counts, but this guy is all I got.  I rub my temples and force my fingers to press the power button.  It’s no use trying to learn what’s stalking me; I’m only digging a deeper hole.  I best get some sleep before Rebecca shows up after her shift.  Last thing I want is to look like complete shit when she shows up.

-November 22, Columbus OH-

“Clarine, are you sure?”  Harry says as he holds his body over mine.  We ended up at the Columbus bus stop at around 8:30 in the morning after the all-night drive out of New York.  Columbus is a large city by any means, but it doesn’t have that glamor of New York that drove me insane.  I felt safe here, maybe I could actually stay here for a while, not downtown by any means but on the outskirts near the miles of farmland we passed on the way in.  That would be nice, plenty of wilderness to hunt in and a large city to slip into whenever I desire.
