Chapter 4: Laxus' "Game" [Continued]

Start from the beginning

"Gajeel." She gasped.

She trampled over to his side, kneeling down to him. His face was obviously pained which made her heart sink. She laid a had on his hard shoulder..

"Gajeel..?" She whispered, wanting him to open his hard-shut eyes.

He slightly grunted and slowly opened his eyes to look into hers. She smiled in relief and leaned closer to him. His face was emotionless as always which made her tighten her lips in curiosity. It bothered her so much that even in the state he's in now, she still couldn't read not one emotion from him.

"I'm fine." He retorted, lightly shaking her hand off his shoulder as he struggled to stand.

"Stop pushing yourself." She complained, taking his arm and placing it over her shoulders to let him lean some of his weight on her.

"I said I'm fine" He persisted as he let out a small groan of pain.

"I can help you" She looked at him with pleading eyes.

He kept his face serious but he knew this was a feeling he was not used to and didn't exactly know if he wanted to. He gave in and let her help him. If she wanted to help him so badly it's the least he could do after everything that's happened. Though in his mind it should be the other way around, he knew owed her big time and had to make up for that horrid beating.. He squinted his eyes and shook off the thought of that awful memory.

"I'LL BE THE ONE TO STOP YOU!" Natsu shrieked sending an attack at Laxus, breaking both Gajeel and Levy's thoughts.

Their heads shot towards the feuding brawl.

"Natsu be caref-!" Levy was cut off as both Laxus and Natsu shot up, breaking through the cathedral ceiling, to take the fight outside.

"Come on short stuff...I don't think we wanna miss this fight" gajeel grumbled, chuckling as he leaned down on her small body as they made their way outside.

They walked over to where Freed was standing. Freed's face was tensed up as he watched the fight up on the roof above.

Natsu and Laxus threw punches and kicks left and right, hitting each other repeatedly. Flames and lightning burst up on the roof, you could barely keep up with their quick movements now.

Suddenly Natsu was struck down, causing a trickle of fear to enter Freed, Levy, and Gajeel's body as they watched in horror at their friend being beaten senseless.

"Natsu!" Levy screeched, she felt the tears brimming over her eyes.

Laxus was readying one of his signature lightning moves.

"Laxus stop this! If you attack Natsu as he is now...." Freed trailed off, not being able to finish his sentence.

Levy covered her face with balled up fists muffling her small cries. She couldn't watch any more of her friends hurt. Gajeel stared at her and began to grit his teeth in anger at Laxus, he couldn't stand seeing the shrimp's tears. He swore he never wanted to see or hear her ever feel hurt again, and he sure as hell didn't want to see any more of her tears fall. Plus if anyone was going to take out Salamander her he knew full well it was gonna be him, not some crazed lightning freak.  Before he thought anything through he let his instincts kick in, rapidly climbing up the cathedral to the edge of the roof where the two were fighting. He reeled out his iron club as soon as Laxus spun out an attack. Before he knew it the lightning hurled towards him, his iron being acting as a lightning rod. He took the full damage of the attack to save Natsu. He was struck and was thrown off the roof by the attack's power. He could feel his body falling towards the ground.
