You stood silently on your porch, looking out at the light drizzle. You had said goodbye to your family, and had bought your train ticket over to a small town a day's train ride away. All your belongings, art supplies, and the advertisement for a spare room were in your possession. You looked down at the ad again, reading it for what felt like the hundredth time.
"Spare room available, please contact the below phone number," a phone number is listed, followed by, "Rockbell Auto-mail, Risembool."
You had already called the number and settled everything with Winry, the girl who had picked up the phone. When she had asked why you wanted the room, you hesitantly told her you wanted a change of scenery. Then you admitted you wanted to be a professional artist and honestly just thought auto-mail would be fun and challenging to draw.
Long story short, you got the room.
You had nothing to be nervous about, everything had been settled and it was unlikely you would run into any trouble.
So why were you so hesitant to step off of the porch?
You took one last deep breath and, putting an umbrella over your head and keeping an extra one attached to the suitcase rolling behind you, you stepped off into your next adventure.

When you arrived at the train station, you went and sat down on a bench on the platform to wait. Once settled, and after checking to make sure you still had everything you had taken with you, you glanced around.
You were the only person at the station at the moment, aside from the man at the ticket counter. But there was something else at the platform that peaked your interest.
Next to the bench you were sitting on, there was a large crate, a broken suit of armor inside it. The helmet of the armor seemed to peer out of the top of it, silently observing the world like a sentry.
You stared at it for a while. Something about the scene reminded you of a game you had played before. You glanced down briefly at your second umbrella and smiled to yourself. You picked up the other umbrella and opened it. Standing up, you walked over to the armor and set the umbrella over it so it wouldn't get rained on. Stepping back and looking at the suit again, you started humming a tune to yourself.
Before you sat back down, there was one more thing you were curious about. You stepped forward and lifted the helmet off the suit, wondering what it looked like inside.
You heard a small gasp, and for a second you thought it was just you imagination. As you peered inside, you noticed a small alchemy symbol, and something in your mind clicked.
"I-is someone in there?" You asked quietly.
You were quite surprised when the armor actually replied.
"U-um, y-yeah. C-could I have my head back please?" A young boy's voice responded.
You let out a little yelp and jumped back, but you put his helmet back on his body.
"S-sorry, I just, wasn't expecting someone in there. O-or not in there. I-I just wasn't expecting a response, I guess," you stuttered.
"N-no, it's fine. My condition isn't exactly," he paused, "normal."
You stayed silent for a few seconds, unsure how to proceed.
"Th-thank you for the umbrella," he said, breaking the silence.
"Oh, you're welcome," you smiled at him.
His metallic gray helmet appeared to tint a light pink at this.
"Do you have a name?" You asked.
For some reason, the pink seemed to get a bit darker.
"M-my name's Alphonse, Alphonse Elric."
"That's cool, I've never met someone with that name before," you smiled brighter.
But something sounded familiar about his name, and your mind raced as you tried to remember why it sounded familiar to you. Then suddenly, you figured it out.
"Wait, is your brother Edward Elric?" You asked.
Alphonse expected an onslaught of questions after he gave his answer, something lots of girls did when they found out his brother was the FullMetal alchemist.
"Yes."
"Winry talked so much about you guys!" You grinned wider.
"Wait, you know Winry?" Alphonse asked.
"Well, we haven't met in real life, but we've talked on the phone," you realized you hadn't actually told Al your own name yet. "Oh, silly me, I haven't even introduced myself yet! I'm (Y/n), Winry put up an ad for a spare room, and I got accepted!"
"That's so cool! My brother and I are on our way to Winry's right now!" He responded.
"So your brother's here, too?" You asked.
Alphonse went silent. You could here the raindrops hitting the umbrellas above you.
"I, uh, might have accidentally gotten left at the wrong stop. I couldn't really tell them this wasn't where I was supposed to get off," he said quietly. "The fact that I'm just a soul bound to a suit of armor is supposed to be secret."
"Oh, well," you looked down, "I think it's pretty cool. And this way I got to meet you before I got to Winry's house."
When you looked back up, the pink had returned to Al's face, and you could feel a considerable amount of heat on your own as well.
"W-when do you think your brother will notice you're gone?" You asked quietly.
"I-I'm not sure," Al responded.
"Do you mind if I ride with you guys on the train?" You asked again.
"I'd be happy if you did."
You pulled your back pack you had been carrying in front of you and pulled out your sketch book.
"Until your brother comes back, would you mind if I drew you?" You asked sheepishly.
"That would be okay with me," he replied.
As you drew him, you started thinking to yourself.
'Alphonse seems really nice, I'm glad I ran into him. I'm glad I brought that extra umbrella so he doesn't have to get rained on. I'm glad I decided to go on my own little adventure.
Why do I feel so nice just being near him? And why was I blushing just because I was talking to him? I've only just met him. Could I...
Could be developing feelings for him? Already?
And he was blushing, too. Could he be developing feelings for me, too?
Nah, I'm too much of a nerd. There's no way any guys could like me in that way.
...
Okay, maybe that was a bit too hard on myself. There's just a very, very small chance of that happening. Especially for someone as nice as him.'
"D-do you have a b-boyfriend, (Y/n)?" Alphonse suddenly interrupted your thoughts.
You looked up at him, immediately feeling a blush spread across your face. His helmet held a similar level of blush.
"N-no," you replied, voice barely above a whisper.
"O-okay," he replied.
You quickly went back to drawing him, and nothing more on the subject was discussed.
After you had finished your picture, which took several hours, you showed it to Alphonse. He was thoroughly impressed by it, showering you with compliments. This only made your blush even more intense, and you felt your heart racing.
You replaced your sketch book in your back pack and the two of you continued conversing.
After a few hours had passed since you had originally arrived at the station, Alphonse noticed a few figures approaching in the distance. As you both watched, a short blonde boy wearing a red coat with his long hair in a braid, accompanied by a large muscular man who was almost entirely bald, except for a curl of blonde hair, arrived at the station.
"Brother!" Alphonse shouted.
The short boy ran over to Alphonse. The rain appeared to have drenched them from their walk.
"Al," he panted, "I was so worried something had happened to you."
"Nah, I'm fine, Ed. Oh, by the way, this is (Y/n). She's moving in to a spare room at Winry's house," Al looked over at you, and you smiled and waved shyly at his older brother.
"Huh, what a coincidence," Edward said then turned back towards the man that was with him. "Everything's alright, Major Armstrong."
The muscular man saluted, then nodded to you.
You waved awkwardly at him.
After a few minutes of everyone sitting silently on the bench, which had previously only been occupied by you, a train pulled into the station. A long screech sounded as the train pulled to a halt.
"Well, time to get on," Armstrong said. He got up from his seat, walked over to the crate Al was in, and picked it up to move it onto the train. You heard a little sound of surprise from Alphonse, and you couldn't help but smile.
Edward eyed you as you carried your stuff to get on the train with them.
"Clearly she knows Al's secret, she was talking to a broken up suit of armor all afternoon," he said to himself as he hurried onto the train. "I wonder..."
(A/N- I'm gonna make a part two, I swear it.
Also I'm not dead...
Physically.
Mentally is a different story.
AND I SHAMELESSLY PUT AN UNDERTALE REFERENCE INTO THIS STORY! HECK YEAH!
Wasn't even planning it when I first had this idea, and that was way long ago. I just finally got around to actually writing it!
Alright, bye guys! And thanks for reading!)
