Chapter 1 - Homecoming Dance (Gray x Lucy)

Gray's Point of View (POV)

I hate high school, I mean I really REALLY hate it, and for so many reasons. One, everyone calls me 'Pervy Popsicle', just because I somehow manage to misplace my clothes sometimes. Two... I really don't understand anything in school... And lastly, the worst one of all, I am deeply in love with Lucy Heartfilia. It sucks 'cause she's known as the school's Fiore Princess, she's smart, possibly the strongest Celestial Mage in the world and is the most popular girl in school (that's what really sucks). And also she's always with that Flame Brain Natsu, there have been so many rumours about them being together, have the students here think it's true and say they're a cute couple. -_-

"Hey, I need to talk to you" I shouted down the corridor while walking towards Ultear. Ultear is my best friend that I've known since we were little, when her mother who was also my Master, Ur passed away we took her in until a new foster family was found for her.

"What is it now? Didn't lose your clothes again did you?" she said while continuing to get books out of her locker.

"What are you talking about, of course I d-" before I could finish she pointed to my chest. I looked down at my bare chest and noticed that I lost my top again...

"Ah shit!" I tried covering my body up while she was grabbing a shirt from inside her locker. I've lost my clothes so many times now she keeps extra inside her locker. While putting on my shirt people walk past calling out "Pervy Popsicle" and "Ice Stripper?" Well that's a new one.

"What did you really want?" Ultear already sounded fed with me and I haven't even been standing here for two minutes!

"I'm really going to do it this time, I want to ask Lucy to homecoming!"

Ultear sighed. "Hasn't she already rejected you about a hundred times already..."

"Not exactly." Great the truth is finally about to come out...

She suddenly looked interested in what I was about to say, and came a little closer to me with a really sneaky look on her face. "Go on."

I looked down to check to see in my pants were still on... Luckily, they were. I kept my eyes on the floor though while admitting to the most embarrassing moment of my life. "Well I never even really spoke to her to be honest, let alone ask her out"

"What are you talking about, I saw her pound you to the floor with what she calls her 'Lucy kick'.

"Let's just say I was going to ask her but while I was walking up to her I slipped on my own ice from where I got into a brawl with Natsu, and fell into her-. Well you don't need to know the rest." I heard a small giggle coming from Ultear's mouth, I looked back up at her and she, well, she looked like she had an allergic reaction from something, her cheeks were puffy and her eyes were huge from where she was holding back her laughter.

"YOU ARE REALLY NOT HELPING" I screamed while she let her laughter out echoing down the corridor.

Finally she had calmed down.

"Well if little Miss Perfect breaks your heart, don't go on a rampage about it and DON'T even think about coming to me crying for help, if you get your butt kicked by Natsu... Again."

"What do you mean again!" Now I wish I never spoke about the whole thing.

"Oh c'mon you know how protective he is about his friends, especially Lucy seeing as she is his bestfriend" Ultear starred at me as I pouted. "And don't think about trying to dress up as Natsu to get close to her!"

"Ok now your just being stupid! Why on earth would I-" Ultear carried on starring at me giving me a really creepy look... "Fine" She knows me too well...

My clammy hands started to stick to the box of chocolates. "I don't think I want to do this anymore." I panicked.

"Well too late to go back now. Here she comes. Hey Lucy!" Ultear called.

Lucy's eyes met mine. "Hey Ultear, hi Gray"

"Th-this is for you." I felt my face beginning to blush and fire up as I held out the box of chocolates, which isn't normal as I'm a Ice Mage after all.

"Oh, Thanks? What's it for?"

"I wanted to ask you, if maybe... You'd like to go to-"

"Yo Luce let's go get some lunch!" Natsu ran towards us shouting. "Oh hey guys!" Natsu looked down at the chocolates, his eyes were like daggers and he looked like a wild beast who hasn't eaten for days. I swear you could see him drooling, why would Lucy like someone like... That? "Where'd you get those?" Oh how I wish I could thump him one right now... Natsu can you shut up and go away already!

"Here Natsu you can have them" she hands them over to Natsu like I gave her a dead flower. He did have a confused expression on his face, well so did I actually. "I'm allergic to chocolate remember? Sorry Gray it was a lovely thought though."

"Oh yeah, I forgot! Good thing you have me, you wouldn't have to waste them." Natsu smirked.

He untied the ribbon I've been working on all night to perfect. "Hey you can't have tha-" I reached out to take the chocolates back from him but then I look over at Lucy, who had the most beautiful smile. I stopped myself. At least the chocolates weren't for nothing.

I ended up not asking her that day. But it's alright, that rare smile was good enough for me.
