Chapter 3: Laxus' "Game"

"No!" She turned to him, pointing her finger up at him.

Gajeel froze, scared that he did something wrong and just sat there and stared at her.

"L and S are bluffs!" She broke the short, awkward silence. "The key code is Als!"

"I-It is?" He stuttered.

She turned back down to her book and continued writing.

"Don't worry.." She directly spoke to him. She pulled a loose strand of hair and swept it behind her ear. "I'll get you guys out of here."

"You really don't have to.." Gajeel sniffed, looking away from her.

"Please.." She whispered, yanking his eyes back to her. She looked up from her book to look straight into his eyes. "Stop Laxus.." They stared at each other, Gajeel being unable to find any words.

Suddenly the rune had sprung a new word sequence. 'Lucy vs. Bixslow. Winner: Lucy"

"What the hell? Bunny girl won?" Gajeel looked at the rune in disbelief.

"Don't underestimate Lu-chan. Hehe" Levy giggled at him.

She went straight to her books. Gajeel was having a pointless argument with Natsu as she worked. She tried concentrating, but it was hard with their constant nags of arguing.

If I can just figure this part out... She thought as she tapped her pen on the book.

"Naw! Let's fight Iron head!" Natsu commanded.

If I rewrite the runes...

"Ah shuddup you're a failure!" Gajeel argued.

But this is the hardest part to.. A ding rang off in Levy's head as she realized the runes secret.

"That's it!" She shrieked.

Her yell scared them as they jumped around to face her, leaving behind their argument. "What's it?!" They yelped in unison.

"I got it! You read the two grammars at different rates to decipher it! Then I match the corresponding time differentiated letters and convert to Gheel grammar... Then translate into Rouge.. I solved it!" She shot her hand up, holding the paper with the solution on it. Her face lit up with a proud smile. She finally did something right. She felt important.

Gajeel and Natsu roared in appreciation and ran up to her, and picked her up to hold her up in the air.

"Gah!" She shrieked. "Haha you guys..." She giggled as they carried her over to the rune entrance.

"Way to go Levy!" Natsu chanted.

"Yeah. Great job... shrimp." Gajeel smirked.

Levy looked down at Gajeel and could feel her cheeks turn pink. His hand was supporting her waist and Natsu's were supporting her thighs. She fidgeted in their grasp to signal them to let her down. She slid down from them and swiftly landed on her feet and padded her dress down as she cleared her throat. She strutted over to the door and began reading the solution, her script pen in hand.

"Now I just have to rewrite the runes!" She proclaimed. "Natsu... Gajeel.. Are you ready? You're about to join the battle of fairy tail!" She grinned and turned around to face them.

Natsu drew his flames out, igniting both his hands. "I'm all fired up!"

"It's time for rampage!" Gajeel sang.

She rewrote the rune in no time and let the boys run off into the streets of magnolia. She clenched a fist to her chest.

"Please.. Stay safe.." she whispered among the silence.

Levy's emotions were all mixed up by now. Every time she was with or near Gajeel she'd feel her heart rate pick up at immense speed. She'd feel butterflies twirling about her stomach. Her mood suddenly brightened every time he was around and yet she couldn't understand why. But she knew one thing, she's definitely forgiven him.. Maybe a little too easily.

"Poluchka-san..." Levy pleaded. "Is Master going to be okay?"

Poluchka stood over Makarov'd bed in silence.

"Poluchka!" Levy shouted, teary eyed.

"You must go to Laxus... tell him his grandfather is on death's door." Poluchka sighed, staring at Makarov's weak face.

Levy gasped and held a hand over her mouth as she let a couple tears fall. "M-Master.." She whispered.

"Levy go now." Poluchka persisted.

Levy nodded and wiped her solemn tears, scurrying out of the guild and in search of Laxus. She gulped at the thought of facing him.

Levy had been walking for a good 10 minutes before she heard clashing, shouts, and lightning bolts coming from the Cathedral a few yards away.

Laxus?! She thought as she began sprinting for it.

She reached the large church and peered in through the stained-glass window. Her eyes widened when she saw Gajeel and Natsu half beaten up. Her heart clenching with worry. She busted through the doors without hesitation. Laxus' gaze switched over to her, his greeted teeth snarling at her sight. Levy took in the position he was in and realized he was ready to dispel Fairy Law. The most ultimate of Fairy Tail magic. His gaze fell back down to his 'praying' formed palms.

"Stop it, Laxus!" She screamed.

He ignored her and continued storing magic energy for the spell

"You idiot! What are you doing here?!" Gajeel barked, his eyes dark and hardened on her. Concern evident on his face.

Though she'd love to take the moment to pay attention to Gajeel, there was no time.

"Laxus! Master is... Your grandfather is... on death's door!" she screeched, fisting at her dress as she fought back watered eyes. "So please! Stop this and come see him!"

"Gramps?!" Natsu gasped.

Gajeel went wide eyed as he stared at Levy.

Laxus suddenly hesitated with his spell, obviously taking a moment to think. His eyes were slightly wide and his concentration was slipping from him. Out of nowhere his sinister laugh broke the silence.

"Hahahaha! Perfect timing..  With the old man out of the way, becoming Master will be easier than ever!" He erupted.

"You bastard!" Gajeel growled.

His Fairy Law was complete. The magic's light illuminating his palms. Suddenly a bright light had flashed from his hands and was sent out over Magnolia. This was Fairy Law. Levy dropped to her knees in defeat, cupping her tear filled face in her hands. They were all blinded as the light overpowered their sight.
