Chapter Twenty Eight - Doorstep

Start from the beginning

"And to think, this is what everyone is fussing over" He smiled, shaking his head as he dipped two fingers into the blood that dribbled from my mouth.

He lifted his now sticky covered fingers and examined it, tsking with his tongue

"Pathetic" He mumbled before wiping the blood onto my shirt

He stood back up, his wings in follow as he sighed and looked down at me with disgust

"Goodbye Rosalie" He sighed, my eyes catching sight of the gun he had pulled from his waistband

It aimed at my heart, the face behind it fueled with rage and revenge. I'd been in this situation many times before, but no matter how many times it happened, it always felt as though it would be my last. I had no idea if I was going to make it again, all the other times I had been rescued, but now, it seemed as though I had run out of lives.

I closed my eyes, choking on the blood that filled my mouth.
Darkness filled my vision, shrill ringing echoing in my ears as I heard the exploding sound of the gun firing.
My numb body collided with a strong gust of wind and as it did, I expected my life to end, for sleep to embrace me for my journey to the beyond.

But like all those other times I awaited death to greet me, it never came.

After what felt like hours of suffocating in my own blood, awaiting the grim reaper to whisk me away, my eyes had peeled opened.
Through the slits of vision I had left, I could briefly make out what was happening.
Kneeling down in front of me was my hero, my Angel - Callum, his wings were outspread, curled around me, protecting me as a hail of bullets ricocheted off of the white barrier in front of me

Another quick swirl of wind pushed through the air and in the blink of an eye, the rest of my heroes appeared; Duke, Riley, Darius, Jaymi, Parry.

Duke's eyes caught mine instantly, his body stiffening as he saw me lying in a pool of my own blood, bleeding from the inside out

The others flew straight into action, their lightning quick speed turning on Clu as Parry forced his hand forward, snapping Clu's wrist, the gun flying meters away.
Instantly, Jaymi had her hands on his neck ready to end him.
I waited, watching until Callum turned around, blocking my view when the snap of bones sounded, swiftly followed by a burst of bright white light.

"Rosie! Rosie?" Callum lightly shook me, his hands on either side of my head as his eyes searched dramatically for any sign of life

I mumbled, but it was incoherent, blood spurting in reaction from my throat.
I couldn't speak, I could barely move, but with whatever remaining strength I had left, I forced my body to move, I forced myself to fight the way everyone had fought for me.
Unsteadily, I managed to roll my head over and release the blood from my mouth

"Stay with me" Callum begged, desperate

I was aware that another figure had now approached me, falling to my side

"Rosie" His voice grumbled from beside me, soft and warm as I felt my lips curl into a smile.
It was him, it was my Duke.

I lifted a hand, feeling as if it was floating in the air. His hand reached mine, cold yet comforting as it clutched onto my fingers.

I was going to die in the comfort of my loved ones, I felt better already. As long as they were safe, it would be okay. This was the sacrifice I had been hoping for.

"You're going to be okay, just stay awake!" Duke forcefully told me, his voice rough, panicked

I was trying my best, but my brain was already shutting down. I could feel my heart slowing, the blood pumping out all the wrong places. I could feel my insides crumble, sink and depart from their natural place. My bones were weak, broken, shattered. As much as I wanted to fight it, I couldn't, not anymore
