"So?" I pushed, eagerly
He sighed before speaking, only worrying me
"They've found Ty and Alex's hide out up in Brazil. Duke, Riley, Parry, Jaymi and Darius are planning to ambush it sometime tomorrow night" He casually revealed, leaning back in his seat as I poured more pancake mix into the frypan
Relief washed over me.
They'd finally found them, which meant we were finally close to our happy ending.
Yet, I couldn't shake the nerves.
They'd be ambushing Ty and Alex, they'd be endangering themselves, who knew how it could have ended? Who knew they would even be successful?"Brazil? Wow" Was all I could reply with as I once again stared out the window, questions drowning my brain
"Yeah, nice place Brazil" He mumbled, unsure of what to say himself
"Where haven't you visited?" I asked, changing the subject to something that didn't hurt to think about
Callum seemed relieved as well as I was, smiling at my change of character
"Well, I haven't been to Russia, or Asia" He shrugged leaning forward on his elbows
I nodded, thinking about it. I wished that I'd had the ability to travel the way he did, to be so free and able.
"Callum, can I ask you something?" I edged, a sudden question popping into mind
He slowly nodded, curious
"How many people have you saved, altogether, since you've been an Angel?" I asked, flipping another pancake almost blindly, making sure I maintained eye contact with him
I could tell instantly that he had been expecting something different, less personal, less intense, but he smiled, seemingly relaxed.
His eyes squinted as he thought about it
"I don't really keep count, so it's hard to say"
I rolled my eyes "Think about it, really think about it, make an estimate if you have to" I encouraged, eager for an answer
"Okay, so if I really had to put a number on it, well.. " He trailed off with a sigh
"Over a hundred" He answered, proud.
My jaw dropped
"Over a hundred?" I repeated, dumbfounded
He nodded again, resting his chin on his fist
"Wow" I replied, amazed "And have any of them ever been as much drama as I am?"
He shrugged, watching the pancake on the stove bubble
"No" He answered after a moments hesitation
We both smiled, but we both felt the tension it caused
"Ever just think of giving up, moving on to the next person, because you totally could and I wouldn't mind" I tried pushing through the silence
He stood up, slowly walking to my side as I stacked another cooked pancake onto a plate
"No" He answered back as I became aware of his proximity
"Why not?" I asked, not daring to look him in the eye
"I like to finish what I start" He joked, easing the tension a little "Like a crossword you know?" He continued "You can't start a new one without finishing the old one"
"I usually just google the hard ones to finish the crossword" I joked back
"I can't exactly use google now can I?"
