A Ruby in the Sky

It was such a hazardous time.

My castle drifting and smothering me.

I was prisoner in my own cellar.

My heart wanting so badly,

to shut out the world and its dangers.

Like a black void,

it coated me.

And then came along my gaurdian.

Its blood-stained cloak calling to my attention.

Nothing would ever escape me until I'm old of age,

for its melodious voice was no ones to claim.

As it nestled upon my vision.

It watched me with such keen eyes.

Calling out to it, I sobbed.

Calling out to it, I wept.

Oh such a gem, it cried back to me.

Oh such a sadness, its sharp talons gripping me.

I watched with such vivid attention unlike no other.

It lifted its majestic wings,

waiting for me to follow its lead.

Atlas, I could not fly.

But, oh dear me,

how I wish so deeply,

to follow the blood-red ruby into the limitless sky.
