Before Me Mercury X Reader

Work

You continued your work day as normal; greeting costumer's and serving each table as the orders slowly came in. Walking by one of the outdoor tables you hear a passing conversation "..... he's such a baby about coming back here" A girl with bright green hair rolled her eyes, "He's just a baby and remember he's presumed dead... No one knows he's..." The other lady responded sipping her coffee.

You kind of got curious but pushed it off... Another memory played through your mind as you went back inside, the smell of fresh cinnamon buns made you smile.

"Mercury! Slow down!" You called trying to keep up with the fast little guy "C'mon!" He called over his shoulder. You had to slow down to catch your breath, he looked over his shoulder and slowed down coming back and grabbing your hand walking with you. A distinct image played in your head.

Mercury had markings on his back, "what's that?" You asked pointing to the markings , "Daddy acidentally hurt me while he was dizzy" Mercury shrugged it off like nothing, that was all you could remember....

You had always been worried that secretly at home Mercury had been abused and this sudden memory confirmed it as well as Mercury's body had never been discovered which gave you the slightest hint of hope. Snapping back to reality you realized you had stopped in a random spot in the cafe "you alright dear?" Mother asked. "Yeah sorry... I just feel lost without my necklace... Can I go get it?" You asked feeling like you betrayed your promise to Mercury.

Your mother smiled and sighed softly, "that necklace is ya' hope of him coming back isn't it? And ya' feel lost without it?" She asked. "N-no it's just special..." You responded.  She held your gaze for a moment "alright, be quick" She agreed. "Thanks mom!" You quickly  ran and hugged her then removed your apron and ran out the backdoor to the Black's family remembrance shrine.

You slowed down and sighed thankfully seeing the coin glimmer in the sun, you took the necklace off the post and looked at it cleaning off a smudge. You had polished it enough you could almost see your own reflection, you kissed the coin softly and then hung it around your neck returning to the cafe.

"Oh come on, no one will recognize you. YOU'RE DEAD!" She sighed, "Emerald, hush" The lady responded placing a hand on Emerald's shoulder "Mercury... This is a order, go back and do as we said" She ran a finger along the young man's jaw until he swatted her hand away. "Don't baby me, The only reason I agreed to join is because of pay... My alliance does not lie with you. It lies with no one, I am a lone wolf" Mercury growled. "Well, be a good dog and do as I saw" Cinder's eyes glow.

Mercury and Cinder had a stare down and then he sighed, "fine..." He agreed. "Only this once" he snarled.

"Oh trust me, after this you will never have to return to that place" Cinder smirked deviously.
