We stared into each others eyes but I broke eye contact as I leaned my head against his shoulder, staring at the fire in thought. I had to grow up. I had to accept the fact that I could not run away from the truth anymore.
My eyes then fell upon Nate who seemed to stand behind the fire from my point of view. His arms were crossed over his chest and a disapproving look was painted on his face as he stared at Alek and me. A frown formed itself on my face as I studied him. He seemed oblivious to the fact that I was staring at him while he was staring at Alek who sat right next to me.
Nate's eyes then met mine and it snapped him out of his trance. He quickly looked away and started chatting with Donald who stood beside him.
"My my, what a vibe. What happened to the life that you boys always have?" A British accent ringed through the camp.
All the Lost Boys attention, along with mine, snapped to the entrance of the camp where Peter walked through. His arm was wrapped around my mothers waist as she leaned into him. They both had silly smiles on their faces as they walked onto the campus.
Peter's eyes landed upon me and then on Alek who quickly dropped his arm from my shoulders and sat upright, clearing his throat as he did so. I rolled my eyes and sat upright too.
"Excuse me." I muttered before standing up.
"I'm going to find some wood to burn." I announced.
"Wait! I'm coming with you." Peter's voice sounded from behind me.
"There's no need for that. I'm sure you can amuse yourself just fine right where you are." I replied, not bothering to look back.
"Jade!" My mother yelled in annoyance, but I ignored her.
I continued to walk through the forest, making sure not to wander off completely though. The forest still creeped me out at night.
A hand suddenly got ahold of my shoulder and I screamed in terror as I turned around. My eyes landing upon Peter.
"Shh! It's alright, it's just me!" He quickly said.
I sighed in relief and relaxed slightly. Irritation taking over. I turned around and picked up a thick piece of wood.
"I told you I'd be fine." I mumbled through gritted teeth.
There was no reply for a bit and I was glad with the silence. But that wasn't long since Peter decided to open his mouth again.
"Look...Jade...I know that we haven't gotten a good start. And I get that this is hard for you, considering the fact that I am your father." He started.
"But I would like it if you would give me a second chance. It isn't hard for you only." He continued.
I didn't reply.
A sigh was heard.
Peter then got ahold of my arm and turned me around so that I could face him. He stared deeply into my eyes. It was as if I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The similarity of our irises and the colour surrounding it was unbelievably brilliant.
"Please, Jade. I thought you always seeked your father. I thought that you imagined what it would be like if you met him. I know I did...if I saw you again, I mean." Peter tried.
His eyes held hope and I felt slightly guilty.
"I suppose my mom told you about that." I replied sternly, pulling my arm away from his grasp.
Peter looked down to the ground in sadness. I stared at him.
It was weird how a boy round my age could be my father. But having spend some time on Neverland and with him helped me get to know him better. And from what I had seen, Peter did not act like every teenage boy I had met. He was more mature. He acted like an adult at times and it was only then I could see his true colours. It was then I could see the man hiding in the body of a teenage boy.
"You're right. I am having a hard time coping with the situation, I mean, it's not everyday you find out that your father is a famous character who rules an island made of dreams and looks like a boy who could be your brother." That last part made a shiver run down my spine, but I shook it off and straightened up.
"And I have been acting childish these past few weeks. Selfish even. And I'm sorry." I admitted.
Peter looked up from the ground and hope had filled his eyes again.
"And since you are my father...I suppose that I ought to give you a second chance...." I finally said.
Peter laughed. Happiness being a clear emotion on his face. He then spread his arms slightly. I hesitated but walked over to him and hugged him. He wrapped his arms around me, hugging me back tightly. Peter's chin rested on the top of my head and a sigh of relief echooed through the woods.
"I will not let you down my darling. I will be the best father ever, even better than the father you dreamed of."
His words made me smile and for the first time in a very long time, it felt as if my life was falling into place.
