She stretched, long and hard. Allison need to prepare herself, mentally and physically. This year was going to be her year, no more sitting on the bench this year. She was going to show them all just how good she was.
Flexing her muscles Allison stared at the chin up bar that was screwed to the door frame in her ensuite. Her long black hair was tied in a tight bun on top of her head. And her face glistened with sweat. She gripped the cool metal tightly and pulled herself up, struggling to even lift herself a few inches off the ground.
Snap!
Allison stopped moving and turned her attention toward her bedroom window. It was dark outside and a breeze crept in through the open window.
Grabbing a jacket that sat on the end of her bed, and her mothers baseball bat that always sat close, Allison made her way out of her bedroom, down the hall, down the stairs and out the door.
Allison treaded carefully across the front porch, baseball bat ready for a swing.
Looking straight ahead, Lydia, Allison's best friend hung from the roof upside down. The girls screamed.
"Lydia, what the hell are you doing?" Demanded Allison, holding the bat in the air.
"You weren't answering your phone" replied Lydia dropping down from the roof and landing on the ground beneath. Her eyes traveled to the bat in Allison's hand. "Why do you have a bat?" She asked.
"I thought you were a predator" Allison said, lowering the bat.
"A pre.." Lydia let out a laugh. "Look I know it's late, but you've got to hear this. My dad left twenty minutes ago, dispatch call. They're bringing every officer of the Beacon Hills department, and even the state police" said Lydia a twinkle in her vibrant green eyes and a smile on her pink lips.
"For what?" Asked Allison eyebrows arched in question.
"They found a body in the woods"
"A dead body?"
"No a living body, yes idiot it's a dead body" said Lydia with a look of annoyance.
"You mean like murdered?" Allison asked, taking a step closer to the her friend.
Lydia flicked a lock of strawberry blonde hair out of her face. "Nobody knows yet. It was a girl, probably in her twenties..." She began explaining.
"Hold on" said Allison, silencing Lydia. "If they found the body, then what are the looking for?"
"That's the best part, they only found half, and we're going to investigate" said Lydia, making a run for her car.
Allison had no choice but to follow her.

❁

Lydia pulled onto a dirt road. After travelling for a few minutes she stopped to park in front of a metal gate. Allison peered at the sign that was illuminated by the headlights, private property stay out! Allison turned to Lydia, who was already getting out of the car, Allison followed.
"We're seriously doing this?" Allison asked as they walked past the gate and looked down at her short friend.
"You're the one who always bitches that nothing ever happens in this town" snapped Lydia as she continued to walk with determination through the woods. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a torch.
"I was trying to get a good night sleep before practice tomorrow" Allison explained, shoving her hands into her pockets.
Lydia laughed. "Right, because sitting in the bench requires such a heavy effort"
"No, because I'm playing this year, I mean playing first line" said Allison watching her surroundings.
"Hey that's the spirit" exclaimed Lydia. "Everyone should have a dream, even if it's an unrealistic one"
Allison rolled her eyes and pulled her jacket tighter around her shoulders. They walked deeper into the woods, guided by Lydia's flashlight.
"Just asking out of curiosity, which part of the body are we looking for?" Allison asked after a moment of silence.
Lydia stopped for a moment. "I didn't even think of that"
"And ah what if the person who killed her is still out here?" Allison asked, peering over her shoulder.
Lydia started walking again, and shone the torch into the ground. "Also something I didn't think about"
The girls claimed a small hill. And Allison began to struggle to breath.
"It's comforting to know you planned this up with your usual attention to detail" she said.
"I know" chirped Lydia.
Allison reached into her pocket and pulled out her inhaler. She took a few breaths.
"Maybe the asthmatic should be the one who holds the flashlight, huh?" Joked Lydia. But soon her smile faded by the unimpressed look Allison have her.
The girls lay down on the flats of their stomachs and peer over the hill. The girls let out a faint squeal of surprise, the police officers are standing right in front of them. Lydia stood up suddenly and started to run.
"Wait" said Allison, pushing herself off the ground.
"Come on" beckoned Lydia, running into the trees.
"Wait up" Allison scrambled on her feet. "Lydia"
Lydia kept running, not even looking behind her. Suddenly a hand grabbed a hold of Lydia's arm and yanked her backwards. Lydia let out a loud Yelp.
Allison wide eyed quickly ducked behind a tree and held her breath.
"Hang on, hang on" said a police officer that was walking toward Lydia. "This little delinquent belongs to me"
The officer that was holding Lydia's arm let go and walked away.
"Hey mom" said Lydia turning her attention to her feet.
"So you're listening to all my phone calls?" Asked Sheriff Martin. She was tall and thin, her thick auburn hair sat loosely around her shoulders. Her green eyes looked tired and dull in the moonlight.
Lydia could see the look of disapproval on her mothers face. Lydia smiled. "No" she said, denying the claim. "Not the boring ones" she mumbled.
Sherif Martin folded her arms over her chest. "So where's your usual partner in crime?" She asked looking around the forest.
Lydia frowned and shook her head. "Who, Allison? Allison's at home. She said she wanted to get a good night sleep before first day of school" said Lydia, trying to protect her best friend. "There's just me, alone, in the woods"
Allison peers from behind the tree to see Lydia get interrogated by the Sheriff. But quickly ducks back behind the tree as Sheriff Martin turns and holds a flashlight in Allison's direction.
"Allison you out there?" Yelled Sheriff Martin.
Allison kept her mouth shut and pressed her body hard against the tree.
"Allison?" Sheriff Martin repeated.
There was still no answer.
Sheriff Martin clicked off the flashlight and turned back to her daughter, grabbing her forearm. "Well young lady, I'm going to walk you back to your car, and you and I, we're going to have a discussion about something called violation of privacy" said the Sheriff leading the strawberry blonde away from police officers and away from Allison.
Allison let out a heavy sigh and relaxed herself against the tree. Now she had to walk home, she couldn't risk walking back to the car in case she ran into Sheriff Martin, Allison would then have to explain why she was out in the woods and not at home like Lydia said she was. Not wanting to get Lydia into more trouble Allison just dealt with it.
Allison's ears prickled as the loud thundering of running came closer and closer. Turning to her left Allison's eyes went wide. Running straight toward her at an unthinkable speed was a herd of deer. Allison's let out a scream as she turned around and ran straight ahead, dropping her inhaler in the process. Allison ran without looking back. But she knew she couldn't or run them, they were way to fast. Jumping over a fallen tree, Allison ducked to the ground and pressed her back against the wood. The deer jumped straight over her and into the darkness ahead. Allison lets out a series of heavy breathing and pushes herself off the ground. She needed her inhaler, and fast. Pressing her hands against her pockets Allison let out a loud groan.
"Great, I dropped my inhaler" she groaned.
Climbing back over the fallen tree Allison retraced her steps. She rummaged through the foliage with no luck. Standing up and placing her hands on her hips, Allison wanted to scream. But it would be no help in trying to find her inhaler.
Something caught Allison's attention and she walked over toward it. Allison bit back a scream, she had found the other half of the body. Covering her mouth with her hand and walking backwards, she tripped over a tree root and tumbled down the hill that she had been lying on moments before.
Allison landed on her back with a loud thud. Groaning, she sat up and rubbed the sore tender flesh.
"That's going to hurt in he morning" she said, allowing her eyes to readjust.
That's when she saw it. A great big wolf, meters in front of her. Allison thought her mind was playing tricks on her, when she blinked again.
But they weren't.
Allison slowly got to her feet and took a few steps back. The creature before her growled and took a step towards her.
The creature pounced and tackled Allison to the ground. A sharp pain shot you Allison's side and she let out a scream. She tumbled down the hill with the wolf and the creature let go.
Allison backed away from the creature, scurrying across the ground. But the wolf was already gone.
Holding her side Allison scrambled to her feet and ran. Ignoring the burning sensation that ate at her body.
She made it to the road and it had begun to pour with rain. Blinking and trying to readjust her focus, car horns rang in her ears, headlights flashed in her eyes. Allison stepped back and just missed by a few inches of getting hit by a car. Allison coughed and pulled at her jacket and shirt and lifted up the material.
"Holy crap" she whispered.
There imbedded into her skin was a rather large bite mark.
