Alana seems empowered by Alec's words, little did he know that it may well be condemnation. Alana turns to him, seeing him for the first time as what he is to her; a mere human with a talent for metalworking and a kind heart.
"Alec," she says, hear voice clear and elegant, like that of royalty would be considered, "I thank you for all that you have done, but I cannot stay."
At her words, Alec's joy is immediately shot down.
"I am a Seraph, no matter what either of us feel, nothing will change that." Alana feels a twinge of pain in her chest, unfamiliar to her.
"Alana..." Alec fights to find the words to explain his sudden feeling of emptiness.
"It is the way of all Seraph. We cannot focus on our own happiness, only on bringing that joy to others."
Alec wanted to say that by staying she would be bringing happiness to him, but the words stick in his throat, refusing to be brought into existence.
"I leave now, for the Seraph blood in my veins will not allow such an action as staying." Alana shortens her explanation, not wanting to spend hours on the topic of why she had to hurt him.
Alec stares at her, speechless.
Then Alana feels the sudden urge to do something she had never done before. She places her hand on his cheek, staring into his eyes for a moment.
"Alana..." Alec feels a heart- wrenching pain that pales every other pain he had ever felt in comparison.
Alana smiles softly, whispering, "Alec... I give you all that I can, here and now. The blessing of a Seraph" Alec feels pressure building behind his eyes, the weight of the world nothing to that of his sudden heart break.
Then Alana kisses him, her lips pressing to his and sending a million emotions through the both of them that neither had ever felt before.
Alana, finding herself in a very unfamiliar situation, pulls back after a few seconds and looks into his eyes once more.
"If ever, in the darkest of times, you need the light of the Angels, the blessing shall call upon that of which you where blessed." Alana whispers, reciting the lines she had never thought to need in her life.
"Alana, please..."
Alana smiles sadly, pain once again residing in her eyes, "I will not forget the kind man that gave me back my wings."
And thus, she turned, Alec numbly following her as she walked out onto the shore line. He watches as she spreads the beautiful wings, made of his only inheritance from his father, and is carried away from him to never return.
