After another few weeks, Alana has worked with Alec in the forge to increase her strength and stamina for flying. Alec is pleased to find that she is quite good at making decorative pieces; a rarity among most blacksmiths due to their need to make practical, useful items.
"Alana," Alec said, tapping her shoulder to get her attention.
She turns to him, setting down the metal she had be re-shaping into the likeness of a rose.
"Yes?" she pushes the goggles off her eyes and rubs some of the soot off her hands and onto her apron.
Alec holds up two small, metal bits that resemble curved, three- dimensional puzzle pieces, "It's time."
Alana nods, going to a corner and stripping herself of her shirt, leaving the binding around her chest and moving to stand in the middle of the room. Alec begins attaching her wings to the Amarithium welded to her, now seeming as natural a part of her as her own arms.
When the wings are fully done up, Alec has her move them in a few different ways to make sure that everything is in place correctly.
"Alright," Alec touches a spot at the top of the base to the wings, "they will lock into place here, making it impossible to take the wings off without breaking something."
They both knew that it would take a force unimaginable to break Amarithium.
"Are you sure you're ready?" Alec asks her. Once the two pieces where locked into place, she would be forced to live the rest of her life as a Seraph, no longer hiding behind the human facade.
"I am," Alana responds, her voice firm.
Alec nods and begins twisting and pressing at certain parts at the base of her wings, going through the intricate motions that would lock each piece in place, save for those that need to move for flight.
"There," Alec says, stepping back and examining his work, "You are now, and forever, a Seraph once again."
