Feathers of Flight

Alec lets out a breath he had been holding, taking out the stitching set and closing her scars once again along the Amarithium fixtures. He cleans the little bit of blood off of her shoulders, then steps back to examine them.

"Perfectly aligned... at equal angles..." Alec nods to himself and says to Alana, "Move around some and see how it feels."

Alana slowly puts her arms to her sides and rolls her shoulders, the Amarithium rippling with light from the forge beautifully. "Is there a way I can see them?" Alana asks Alec, turning to face him.

"Yes," he realizes that he has never shown her a mirror before, dusting one off and holding it up in front of her.

Alana stares at it in wonder, moving her arm and being fascinated as her reflection does the same.

"Who is that?" Alana asks, gesturing to the mirror, "and why is she acting like me?"

Alec laughs and taps the edge of the mirror, "This is a mirror, it shows you whatever stands in front of it. The things you see are called reflections." 

She touches the mirror, and smiles, "So this is me?" 

"Yes," Alec looks past the mirror and to the actual Alana, "That is you." 

Alana stares at the mirror for a long time, marveling in the ability to see herself and turning this way and that way to see herself at different angles. 

Eventually she remembers her reason for requesting such a thing and twists to see the Amarithium embedded in her back. 

"Did you ever have a chance to see your original wings?" Alec asks her. 

"No," Alana smiles sadly, "but I was told that they where of the purest white, with tones of silver and gold."

"They sound beautiful. I hope to return such beauty to you, Alana." Alec did not say that he thought she was just as beautiful, if not more, than the way she described her wings.
