"A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out"
-Walter Winchell
----------------------------

He held my shoulder and bought his face closer to my ear "But if you dare to defy my order then I'll make sure to destroy you both" he whispered causing chills to run down my spine.

No I can't be scared.

In my entire life nobody ever dared to point a finger at my dignity, but this jerk thought he could trample on it as he pleased. Ha you wish.

I was trying to hold in my anger but his nasty words were the last straw. I went to counter where my iced coffee was placed and tossed all of its content in his head. Everyone at cafeteria gasped in shock.

"What the-"

"First of all keep your damned mouth shut. Perhaps you could get any girl you want here but I'm not any girl. I would rather die than sleeping with a monster like you. People like you disgust me." with this I walked out of cafeteria with Clara.

That jerk deserved it. Who does he think he is?

"He'll destroy us Andy he's so powerful. He could go to any extent to prove his might. We are totally ruined." Clara said crying.

I hugged her tightly. "Don't worry girl. I'll not let him step over us that easily."

"Why have you taken all of this upon yourself even when there wasn't your fault? You shouldn't have defended me. I'll not be able to forgive myself if he causes any distress to you due to me" she said in between sobs.

"I wasn't bragging when I said I'll be your best friend. And friends never leave each others side when one of them is in trouble."

She wiped her tears and smiled "Thank you Andy." She said hugging me.

"Now I don't think I'll be able to attend remaining classes I need to clear my head." I said closing my locker.

"Me too. Let's go home." she said.

..........

"Honey is everything alright? I've got a call from your college that you haven't attended classes after lunch. Your health doesn't seem well. Should I call a doctor?" Mom's worry-filled words pulled me out out of my distasteful thoughts.

She was standing near my bed with the concerned expressions.

"No mum no need to call a doctor. I was having a headache, but now I'm fine. Don't worry." I lied.

I had never lied to my mom before. I shared everything with her. She was more like my best friend. But today I wasn't having enough courage to share my biggest problem with her because I didn't wanted her to get involved in it even in my worst nightmares.

Mom's worried expressions softened and she sat close to me on my bed and caressed me.

"Honey I don't know what problem you are facing today and I'll never force you to tell me, but always remember your mom is always with you no matter what". That was it, I felt a tiny droplet fall from corner of my eyes. She always supported me in every phase of my life no matter what. She was my angel.

I hugged her tightly "I know mom and I love you so much."

"My girl can beat any problem no matter how big it is." her soothing words made my worries forgotten for a while.

"Don't worry mom I'll never disappoint you" then suddenly I remembered "Oh and how was your job hunt today?"

"It was good hun. I got hired as a library incharge downtown" she said excitedly.

"Whoa, that's great mom" I was extremely happy for her.

After mom went away I took out my all time favourite book 'The Alchemist' from my bookshelf, to divert my mind. But unlike the other days my mind wasn't able to focus on it. Be my slave for one night his distasteful words were playing in my mind again and again unwillingly. I was trying so hard to shutoff today's obnoxious incident but it was haunting me repeatedly.

I knew he was very powerful and capable of ruining me completely. If you defy my order then I'll make sure to destroy you both. His whispered words were causing a chill in my bones. What wrath awaited me in future, even its slightest assumption was so terrifying that it made my insides tremble.

No I can't be a coward. I'm not a coward. I was filled with a sudden hope. He wanted to ruin me, wanted me to completely submit to him, to fear him and become his puppet, but I wasn't a coward to give him that satisfaction.

Mark Winston you jerk, you think you can scare me with your power, but you don't know how strong-willed I can be. I'll never submit to a devil like you.
